Resume:
Georgetown, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a crash involving a tractor trailer and two vehicles on US113 southbound in the area of Kruger Road south of Georgetown.
The incident occurred around 10:08 a.m. this morning as a 16 year old male was operating a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and was stopped in the cross over of US113 at Wood Branch Road. The operator was attempting to cross over US113 northbound and travel eastbound on Wood Branch Road when he failed to yield to a 2000 Lincoln Town Car that was traveling northbound on US113. The Silverado struck the rear of the Town Car, which was being operated by Mae J. Sirrell, causing it to spin out of control and into the center median before it stopped in the southbound lanes of US113. A 2012 International tractor trailer being operated by Randall J. Dreeszen, was traveling southbound in the right lane of US113 when he attempted to avoid the car in the road and applied his brakes. The tractor trailer, which was fully loaded with glass masonry jars, struck the front of the Town Car with the rear tires of the tractor portion of the rig which caused the truck to overturn and land on its side partially in the right lane and shoulder of the road.
Mae Sirrell, who was properly restrained, was trapped in the vehicle for approximately 20 minutes before being extricated by Georgetown Fire Department. She was flown to Christiana Hospital by Delaware State Police Aviation (Trooper 2) where she is currently admitted in stable condition.
Randall Dreeszen, who was properly restrained, was not injured in the crash. The 16 year old male, who was uninjured, was charged with Failure to Yield the Right of Way, Inattentive Driving, and No Proof of Insurance.
Traffic in the area of US113 southbound at Kruger Road was impacted for over 4.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
