Accused Killer Fights Extradition From Del. to Md.

A Sussex County man accused of killing a fellow church worker is fighting extradition to Maryland.

A justice of the peace in Georgetown denied a defense request Monday to stay the extradition of 28-year-old Matthew Burton of Dagsboro pending the filing of a habeas corpus petition in Superior Court.

But after the petition was filed, a Superior Court judge ordered that Burton remain in the custody of Delaware prison officials pending an Aug. 16 hearing on his extradition challenge.

Let him fight extradition and stall as long as legally able. Worcester county has several big time consuming, complex cases on the agenda, so the longer this criminal stalls the better for the state's attorney's office as they will have longer to prepare. In the end the inevitable will happen, justice will prevail and perhaps he will be reduced to a number within the MD prison system.
