When government and its agencies are running deficits they will pull out all the tricks to get their hands on your money. Today’s example comes from New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is considering adding on a
'green fee' on each new MetroCard to encourage riders to recycle their
cards.
The proposal for the $1 surcharge was contained in the agency's preliminary budget for next year.
The aim is to reduce the number of cards that are printed and discarded.

Oh yeah. Recycling a paper card the size of a Visa card is going to make a huge impact. And they can say this as if we are actually believing it. They would be just as believeable telling us they were going to charge the dollar to help feed the elves who were displaced in the battle for Middle Earth.
