Click it or ticket. It’s not just for people anymore — at least in the Garden State.
Police and animal control officers are authorized to cite drivers
with unrestrained animals in the car. Yes, that includes the back of a
pickup truck too. Violators can be fined $250 to $1,000 per offense.
Ray Martinez, head of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, just wants to avoid distracted driving.
“People actually driving with a dog or a cat on their laps. It’s not
cute. It’s actually dangerous for the driver. It’s dangerous for other
drivers and it’s dangerous for that pet.”

I am 100% in favor of this and if you put you dog in the back of your truck they should impound the truck.
I'm not sure I agree or disagree with this. The pets are safer and some people are stupid for riding with a pet in their lap while driving. Not only for the safety of others since they do not have full mobility with a pet on their lap but also for the pet. Don't these people know that the force of your body against that pet or the air bag deploying will kill the animal?
I don't like the fact it's one more thing the government is forcing us to do. It seems they have to keep making these stupid laws because people are doing stupid things!
see Chuck Wollery below...
Better call Cesar to train your dog how to buckle up!

Bingo! You got it.
This from a state that makes it illegal for people to pump their own gas for their vehicles.
If the people of NJ are not intelligent enough to put a nozzle in their gas tank, it stands to reason they are not intelligent enough to transport their pets.
So it must be true that the citizens of New Jersey are not very bright and cannot be trusted to carry out their lives without government showing them how.
Now if they would only pass a law that makes it illegal for them to travel outside of their state limits.
That would be beneficial to citizens everywhere.
