Heat Announcement For Parents Of Students Attending Non-Air Conditioned Schools

Superintendent of Schools Dr. John E. Fredericksen announced on Tuesday, May 29 that parents of students attending non-air conditioned schools may keep their child home as an excused absence IF the forecasted temperature for that day is 85 degrees or higher. Schools affected by this announcement are Bennett Middle, West Salisbury Elementary, East Salisbury Elementary, and portions of Pittsville Elementary and Middle.

There are 10 - 15 different sources for forecasted highs, make sure you use the correct one.

Oh no! We must rebuild all these schools! The heat is so much worse these days than it has been over the last 30+ years!

Just another Frederickson and BOE propaganda release for all the reasons this county needs new schools! It is, however, funny that Bennett Middle is the only one that ever gets talks of rebuilding due to the lack of AC... I suppose the demographics of the lower middle class at West Salisbury, East Salisbury and Pittsville aren't as important.

How did we ever make it?
I went to Bennett middle...lets just say when it was new..

Frederickson, we the people can see right through your malarky. You do not run this county's budget, and you never will.

Agree with the above: How have we survived?! It's called, Suck it up cupcake and deal with it and move on!! This really cracks me up, because half of these kids live in a house with no a/c at all and what about the construction workers, lawn people, Roofers and all the others who work outside?! But, here's a solution: Let's do away with spring break and get out of school a week earlier!! So simple, but no it's wayy to easy to complain about t he lack of a/c!! Also, I have a question - How does a field trip to Jolly Rogers provide a learning experience for the kids?! Oh it doesn't - Just a fun day in the sun!!! What a joke!!! Glad to know my tax dollars are hard at work!!!

Fredrickson didn't make the announcement because HE felt the temps were too high. His office fielded dozens of calls from irate parents who didn't want their lil darlins to break a sweat.

When I was in school in NJ the ONLY room that had air conditioning was the computer room & that was in high school. Grades K-8 & the rest of the high school, well lets just say: "forget about it".

Wooses.
If parents didn't keep thermostats @ 75, the kids could stand it. That's right, keep on woosing.
