The Shot Heard Around The World, Well, Almost?

The Navy has started testing a gun that could shoot a round more than 100 miles. The super-powerful weapon is called an electromagnetic railgun. Testing is designed to see if the barrel could withstand the heat and stress of repeated firings, and if the shells hold up while traveling seven times the speed of sound. The Navy has spent $240 million developing the railgun. But it might be several more years before it's ready for mounting on ships. One contractor is General Atomics, maker of the Predator Drones.

Why can't they spend this amount of money, time and energy on making the world a better place instead of new and improved ways of killing people?

I like having good defenses but we have more issues that demand attention.

930, because there are people who feel that killing you would make this "world a better place" and those people are "spend[ing] this amount of money, time, and energy" finding ways to achieve that mission.

Just remove the covers on both sides of the hubble telescope and direct the sunlight that comes through on to the countries of our enemies. End result, big time heat wave, country on fire, or french fried muslims.

That's a bunch of bs. They want you to believe that crap to justify their spending. If anyone wants to kill me they can do it with a piece of 50 cent lead. If I die, I die. I'm not going to walk around in fear of it. That's what they want us to do. Screw em. We all are going to die someday anyhow. Why keep going in debt to hasten the event?
