A 14-year veteran of the New York Police Department apparently shot himself to death Monday after finishing his shift, becoming the fourth NYPD officer to commit suicide in less than a month, The New York Post reported Tuesday.
Matthew Schindler, 39, finished his shift in Queens, N.Y., and then shot himself under the chin off of the Long Island Expressway in Jericho around 4:30 p.m. ET, sources told The Post. The married father of three had texted his sergeant minutes before to tell him goodbye, The Post reported.

Guilt catches up with you....
Many active officers are in psychiatric treatment weekly.
Sorry for his children, family and friends.
Guilt? What Guilt.
Got Guilt?
The guilt of doing the things he should not be doing in the course of his day as a cop.
I guess some cops do have a conscience and it finally caught up with them.
Sorry for his family and friends. But he and others cannot do the job correctly and refuse to resign, this is an option.
Good for him. He has set an example for other cops like him to follow.
Godspeed.
Too bad the mayor won't follow suit.
I lost a great friend to the Baltimore Police Department.
He was a wonderful person. I watched him be transformed into an animal.
Six years on the force and he put a gun to his head.
He was too good hearted a person to commit the crimes he was "compelled" to commit on a daily basis and he hated the B.S. machismo blue attitude.
Such a loss.

I am sorry to hear about your friend. I believe what you're saying. Especially since you validated my comment at 7:10pm.
Your friends case is a tragic one since he wasn't a willing participant.
The worse part is too many are willing participants.
Peace.
