After concentrating on Iowa more than any other Republican presidential candidate, Rick Santorum is gaining on front-runners Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, a new Des Moines Register poll shows. Santorum is hoping to consolidate Iowa's Christian conservative vote — the strategy that won the state for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee four years ago.
Jeanne Zyzda did not expect more than 100 people in her Sioux City coffee shop, the Daily Grind. Not all at once, and not on a holiday.
"Normally, we're not open on New Year's Day," Zyzda says. "Normally, we're not open on Sunday at all."

Santorum for pope!
Santorum is a fresh face, very competent and electable, in a sea of faces we're getting tired of. The only other one who is really electable is Romeney. Gingrich is undoubtedly the smartest, but he is not electable. The Republicans need to defeat Obama, so they must choose the one who has the best chance of doing it.
This is a stealth attempt to turn the US into a theocracy.
Don't discount Santorum's ability to attract Democrat voters. The man won his Congressional seat in Pittsburgh in a district where Dems outnumbered Republicans 3 to 1 and he would win with a 10% margin.
