More On Wicomico County Board Of Education

Hello Joe,

Could you possibly tell me why the principal of Prince St. School Chris Nunzio,Sandra Drummond and several teachers from Prince St. attended a conference in Seattle,
Washington? Isn't that a bit far? You would think they were working for a multimillion dollar company.

I was informed that all expenses were paid for by the Board. They left on Friday the 20th and returned today the 25th. Wow, how much did that cost the taxpayers of this county?

Sincerely,
A Concerned Tax payer

Prince st? Maybe they would have better better off attending a conference in a city that deals with a high disproportion of single economically disadvantaged households! Not sure how many of those you'd find in seattle. maybe they got confused and didn't realize it was the other washington! lmao!

What a stupid question. I just love how the lemmings that post on this site ASSume so much with so little information (and brains).

What difference does it make? Really? Is all continuing education and professional development supposed to be within a 10 minute drive? If it's an approved expense, in an already tight budget, then it must be important enough to invest in. Perhaps they got a grant to attend? Did you check on that?

There are conferences that take place all states. Why not use the money to buy appropriate materials for kids. I dont think conferences can help at this point. Hope our county isnt too far gone.

I heard that the United States Department of Education has these "conferences" where administrators and teachers can receive "professional development" whereby new federal "curriculums" are discussed.

paid by federal grant money - for a national conference - which, by the way, instructs and explains the federal mandates that states have to adhere to

now this new taj mahal/BMS... THAT the county will pay out the nose for - this national conference did not cost Wicomico county residents anything- and will allow Wicomico county to make sure they stay compliant with federal law and requirements

When teachers attend conferences, they have to prepare presentations for their faculties and others to share what they learned. Very reasonable. When central office folk go somewhere, they are not expected to present anything.

Anonymous said...

Compliant? Hahaha!

Ummm....last time I checked, those federal govt. grants were paid for using tax money from us. Why is it so hard for people to understand that there is no such thing as free money?

If your so concerned attend a meeting and publish your name.

This is a typical example of waste
at the WCBOE, there are alot of things money is spent on that would blow your mind.....

iPads, magnets, bagels, donuts, crab cakes and steak, laptops, balloons, cake.......

Do all you idiots question when SU professors or other professionals attend a professional conference? I think not. Also, I wonder how many other school sysytems get this much scrutiny. Let these folks do their jobs. If you have an issue with federal money being spent, call your legislator or shut your pie hole!

Anonymous said...

yeah give us the names and do tell us what they learned? How wonderful it will be now that they can come back and teach all the other teachers and staff so we'll have the best schools in the nation! what a freakin joke!

how come no more info on the BOE HR reps who intially were let go and are now terminated. Is it not against the law.."whislte blower" rule. Since they got no results in their chain of command they went right to the state audtior to cover their asses. SO they got fired...Whats up Joe..we need to hear why they went to the state and how in the hell can Fredricson contract can be renewed when he obviously involved with something shady

PUBLIC EDUCATION IS BROKE BEYOND REPAIR WE want VOUCHERS NOW>>>and not 1 dollar of my taxes will go to any government run institution...

This idiot has watched our county waste money when it should be spent on students. It will all come out, soon.

I believe SU is a for-profit college, meaning they don't use taxpayer money. I could be wrong but I have NO DOUBT if I am, several will correct me.

I don't know how many other school systems get this much scrutiny. Probably the same amount, but by the ones WHO LIVE IN THAT AREA.

We live in this area so we are more concerned with our own problems, get it?

Checking accountability is not interfering with their job. (Unless of course they are doing something they don't want others to find out)

If people have issues with federal monies being spent, shouldn't they be asking questions of those spending it, as well as legislators?

Your whole comment raises more questions than answers them.

If you don't have answers, and are not asking questions, why don't you keep your pie hole shut?

You have brought nothing to the discussion except rudeness and bad communication skills.

I certainly hope you are not a teacher or one who took this trip.

oooooooo lemmings, I like that word! Concerned Taxpayer must have struck a nerve :D

This is a joke I wouldn't complain if it was Washington D.C but if they can afford a trip to Seattle then there better to use the money for better materials like the internet in my school the computers and laptops are so slow that sometimes that it took the whole class to load and half the time when were on the computers they are loading if I do the work from home then I finish it in 15 minutes but if I do it in school I finish it in about an hour and a half.

having a family member who teaches in the state (but not wicomico cty), I have been amazed at the number of laws and mandates that are required but not funded by the state and fed. govt. If these mandates are not met, the state and fed. gvt can withhold their portion of funding- THEN the county would have a greater expense. The local counties had no say over where the annual conference would be held. People really show their ignorance sometimes.

Anonymous said...

Well SU is funded by the state. All their workers are paid by the state so that is still taxpayers money. I just want to know where all the money comes from to build two new buildings both costing millions of dollars. Not even mentioning the fact that they are and have been buying all the land they can get. Dressers land and parking lots, The new Noland building, the shopping center. Where is all this money coming from wouldn't we all like to know?

7:19. The money comes from the SU foundation .....not you . Some of us,who actually value education, contribute our money to advance it.

Yes, there are conferences held all over the US which teachers can attend. Some of these teachers and other BOE employees take advantage of these conferences. They sign up, receive free tuition, free hotel rooms or receive a room at a big discount. Instead of attending the conference they stay in the hotel room with the "partner" who went along. How do I know? My husband (BOE employee) and his PTA president (lover) did this over the past two years. It's sad to see no one from the BOE makes sure what they are paying for is being used the way it's meant to be used.

Yes, we're divorced now. They didn't fight me due to the pictures I have as proof.

You expectme to believe that load of crap...And FYI I do value education however the current situation bring up allot of questions from the taxpayers. where is all the money going we alrady give and why is it mismanaged. Education is very very very important but the current system obvouisly is corrupt and not educating anyone with the quality for the money we send to annoplois..its eaten up by the unions BOE's and I bet for every dolar we give the classroom gets 10 cents so yes I'm pissed seeing my tax dollars wasted on over educated moron running this scam

7:36 There are alot of things that take place at the boe that are immoral, disgraceful and unethical. Removing principals from schools because there having affairs with the vice principal happened at an elementary school last year. What a waste of time. While kids are suppose to be learning, administration is playing. Disgraceful. If we look hard enough at central, we just might find out something similar is happening.

ok so let review..remember the 4 million dolar fence SU put up back in the 90"s when they needed student housing??..Like they really needed a f ing fence instead of something that was usefull. I dont anyne come on here and talk about earmarked funds as was stated years ago...THat is such BS. Waste fraud and abuse...with my hard earned tax dollars at work...NOT

Anonymous said...

Really! We're really going to start scrutinizing every expendenture by the BOE? At this rate we should all just pack it up, no more public education. I can't imagine how I'm going to make it through the day knowing that a few educators went to a conference, most likely on our tax payer dollars. Now i want to know what type of pencils the BOE bought and if there not No. 2, I call for am immediate hearing!

Anonymous said...

It isnt about scrutinizing purchases. We have to look at the big picture. Whistle blowers have been terminated, false accusations are being slung like mud, lies are being told, policy not being followed and deception, manipulation and retaliation abound. When you add all of the above to the heaping piles of innapropriate, over indulgent spending, it doesn't seem quite so petty in scrutinizing spending.

Looks like the state gives a certain amount to the budget of universities and donors/foundations make up the rest. At least that's what I understand after looking it up online.

it is so funny to see the libs squeel when the public asks for accountability and transparity. Truth be told if it was such a worthwile endeavour would they be praising it from the highest mountain not squeeling like a stuck pig.

Anonymous said...

5:37, what's really funny is to see a brilliant conservative such as yourself comment about education and "libs," while "squeel" is mispelled twice and do please tell us what "transparity" means. It might be "worthwhile" for you to squeal about the transparency of your motivation to comment.

It is good to see that someone sees the big picture! Yes, whistle blowers are being terminated (constructively). The BOE has made false accusations and continues to tell lies to cover it up. They state false policies to get out of being held accountable. The deception, manipulation, and retaliation is running rampant by the WCBOE. It appears the boards members and the union have been pulled in too. A big front to cover up reality. Very disturbing!

Anonymous said...

12:13 Sadly, I have first hand experience with the manipulation, false accusations, deception and retaliation. When I am able, I will publicly share my story. In the meantime, I will encourage others to stand up for what they believe to be right.

Going public is exactly what needs to happen, but we can't go public individually. We need to go together, collectively, with attorneys legally representing us the whole way to protect us from more abuse. Then it is time for some HUGE compensation to all of us from the WCBOE!!! Maybe clean house and we can fill the vacant positions...hmmm

PLEASE encourage those who have been bullied and manipulated to speak out as a group. Everyone knows at least a few examples of intimidation, favoritism and lying. If the ways of a dictator are not exposed, the dictator stays in power. Time is running out.

The actual BOARD, Mr. Ron Willey and team, MUST know what is happening. Letters need to be sent ASAP. In order for this nonsense to stop, the captain of the ship must be removed. Without actual facts that show violations in his ability to properly "lead" the educational system, his contract will be renewed. How were your rights violated? How did the superintendent NOT follow policy and procedure? How were you wrongfully terminated? Put it in writing and send to the president of the board. Posting here WILL be read but it needs to also go to the team that will make the decision to renew or not to renew.

Anonymous said...

You've said it all 5:06

Anonymous said...

So what if we already told the actual BOARD? What if they were aware of our situation, promised to take care of it, they don't, it gets worse, you try to contact them again and they never speak to you......They should be held accountable too since they knew what was going on and for whatever reason suddenly back pedalled from helping and holding people accountable.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone contacted the Federal Department of Education? Governors office? Ethics Board? Employment Commission? EEOC? CiVIL Liberties Union? Mr. Sadusky at State Department?

Anonymous said...

They are no help either so far! Have contacted all but 2 of them....but thanks for the tip! Now I have 2 more to try....not that I am holding out much hope!
