MARYLAND STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE PEDESTRIAN FATAL IN QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY

(Crumpton, MD)- Maryland State Police from the Centreville Barrack continue to investigate an early morning double pedestrian fatal in Queen Anne’s County.

The deceased are identified as Megan Pulleyn, 26, of Millington and Thomas Gustafson, 57, of Chestertown. Pulleyn was operating a 2007 Toyota Camry. Gustafson, a hunter in the area, was walking in the roadway at the time of the incident.

State troopers responded to the scene shortly before 7:00 a.m. The preliminary investigation indicates Pulleyn, traveling westbound on Route 544, west of Route 290, struck Gustafson, who was either standing or walking across the roadway. Pulleyn immediately stopped her vehicle, exited and began walking towards Gustafson, while calling 9-1-1 from her cell phone.

As Pulleyn was attempting to help Gustafson, a 2011 Jeep Compass, traveling eastbound on Route 544, struck both pedestrians. The Jeep, operated by Margaret Blankenship, 54, of Crumpton, immediately stopped.

Pulleyn was pronounced deceased at the scene. Gustafson was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Blankenship did not suffer any injuries.

The Maryland State Police CRASH Team responded to investigate the crash. Troopers from the Centreville Barrack, Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office, Kent County Sheriff’s Office, and Queen Anne’s Paramedic Units assisted at the scene.
