BALTIMORE (AP) — Long blamed for many of the ills facing the Chesapeake Bay, farmers find themselves straddling both sides of proposals to deal with another source of pollution: septic tanks in housing developments.
That’s because while farmers have long argued that they are working to cut runoff of manure and fertilizer from their fields and pointed to the impact of development on the Chesapeake, they also are wary of moves to limit what they can do with their land.
So, as lawmakers in Annapolis begin this year’s General Assembly session, farmers find themselves waiting along with homebuilders, county officials and others to see how lawmakers will deal with septic tanks.

It's not farmers it's the western shore city run off.
It does'nt matter if it is a mini-treatment plant or a septic tank,enviro-wackos are'nt going to approve it.They control your land and that's it.
Municipalities are exempt from the clean Water Act and are not fine for dumping raw sewage. Except for the token fine from the state.
Isn't the LOWER shore at a lower elevation than the bay? From the ocean westward doesn't the land rise upward?
How can water flow uphill into the bay?

As a former resident of Anne Arundel County, I have seen the tide rise totally over the tops of septic tanks of waterfront properties along the Magoty River. Didn't notice any chicken houses so I guess they weren't farms.

If we let the politicians make new rules on this you know they will screw it up and then pat themselves on the back for doing so.

You ever see that puddle of water in Ocean city? It's called the Atlantic ocean. It's elevation is SEA LEVEL. The further west you travel in Maryland the elevation goes? Up.
Actually it goes up and down with rises and depressions. The area around the bay is higher than the bay or it would be flooded. East of the bay it continues downward towards the ocean. Sea level.
