Downtown Salisbury More Secure Then You Thought

Property owners are taking it upon themselves to step up security throughout the Downtown area but even more so on the Downtown Plaza.

As you can see from the images above, not much can go on 24/7 without businesses having some kind of footage.

What's scary to me is that grant money has been provided to the City of Salisbury and the Salisbury Police Department but not many of their cameras are operational, yet.

I can tell you that I will provide security from my end of the Plaza in the very near future, joining forces with other Downtown businesses. We want it secure for our tenants and residents. That day has come.

That's all well and good. They are prepared if anything should happen. But aside from people relieving themselves and sleeping on benches, is there really that much foot traffic there?

You are there and see it first hand. What's it like on a given day/night?

Is anything even worth stealing on the plaza? (besides the electric some are up in arms about)

Bumms, creaps, and the homeless out to sleep a lot easier now knowing they are safe.

This could actually be a good sign. If,for instance outside entities have expressed an interest in the Plaza, surveillance cameras would be even more of an incentive to come. The Plaza appears to have numerous residences built above the store fronts.I'm thinking positive thoughts and that something is afoot.

I recently sat on a committee discussing this very thing. On the committee were several business owners, who said that they would put up their own cameras and would find out whether they could put cameras on poles near their businesses for a wider surveillance. I understand that Delmarva Power presently does not permit this.
Committee members were also advised that the SPD had received cameras through a grant, but few were operational because no member of the force had been trained to install and monitor. Perhaps that has changed now with the arrival of Chief Duncan.

That one picture of a camera on a light pole looks like it has a WI-FI antenna on it.
