Maryland Trial Judges Pay Is 43rd Worst In Nation

When adjusted for cost of living, Maryland’s judges are some of the worst paid in the nation, according to a study from the National Center for State Courts. The study, released last week, ranks trial court judges’ adjusted salaries at 43rd in the nation.

From reading the article I can safely say that the article is full of it. Over 100K per year is not enough? That's being underpaid? What about working your a** off and clearing $25K a year? Disgusts me

wouldnt it be 43rd best? counting as 43rd worst makes it as 7th best doesnt it?

I think they should be working for free. They don't sentence any criminals , they don't know the law. They are at work 50% of the time.
Nobody goes to jail in Maryland , maybe a few months or so for some really bad crime. Then they are furnished with anything they want.

All of Maryland state salaries are near the bottom when you adjust them to the cost of living. State Highway and State Troopers are 49th out of 50, not to mention the furloughs and pay reductions. At the current tax rate, anyone who works for the state could do better elsewhere, but most are locked in here with high mortgages and little savings. Local and county jobs offer a higher salary than most state jobs. Although I would agree a 100K plus salary would seem to be sufficient for the judges, most have put in their time in law school and as prosecutors and have given up their private practice.
