Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr., announced today that, starting on Thursday, July 14th, residents and businesses may go online to view and pay real estate, personal property and county utility bills.
Pollitt said that users can access the new service by logging on to the county web page at
http://www.wicomicocounty.org/ and selecting a button on the left that reads, “Pay Real Estate Taxes Online – Citizen Self-Service.” Users should then follow the link to “Citizen Self Service.”
With the new service, Pollitt said that users can view tax bills and make payment by credit card, debit card or electronic check.
A third party service provider, Official Payments, operates the new process. There is a convenience fee of 2.75% of the bill amount or a $3.95 minimum for credit or debit card use. There is a flat fee of $3.00 for electronic check payments. The fees are in addition to the amount due the county. The user will see the fees involved before payments are processed.
Pollitt concluded that, “This should be a great convenience for our county tax payers. I also anticipate that the service will greatly improve the efficiency of the county Finance Department. I encourage the use of this new feature.”

I will not use this service as long as there is a fee. Other vendors do not charge fees for electronic payment. Leave it to the government to come up with something that will only cause us more money. Good work Mr. Pollitt.

I wonder how that is? There's the same number of people in the Finance Department. Citizen costs go up (the fee) while Government costs stay the same.
Has the County Council approved these fees? If so, Rick, along with all of them should be thrown out. We are struggling just to pay our taxes and now a fee on top of this. What world do they all live in? Oh, forgive me, most of them don't have to worry where their next meal is coming from. I forgot.
Are you all really that thick? There is a fee if you use the service. You don't have to pay this way; you can still pay in person or mail your check in. Many companies charge a fee for electronic check or pay by phone. Anyone who accepts credit cards gets charged a fee. If the county were to absorb that cost, you'd all be crying foul. Do you get it now or do you just want to complain?
9:24pm Just another way to suck money out of the taxpayers I say. Looks like ricky & company do a feel good service to us and it's hidden by some fees. WTF?
9:24, they are just that thick. It is hard to argue with thick. I guess they would rather people other than those who pay online absorb the fee. In essence we would be paying for those who want the convenience. All people are programmed to do on here is automatically bash. What they never mention is that the county budget (hence their taxes) have decreased by over 14 million dollars in the last 4 years. We have just about the lowest taxes in the state. But.....it sure is fun to complain.
