The Wicomico County Council is scheduled its (10th?, not really, but almost) LAST BUDGET WORK SESSION on Monday at 9AM in the council chambers. Among items on the agenda is discussion of providing level funding to the office of the County Executive.
On Tuesday at 10 AM, the council will meet in council chambers to vote on the FY 2012 budget.

Good. I'll be glad this will soon be over for this year. I'm sick and tired of reading in the Daily Times, almost every day, the bashing of the current members of the council. They don't deserve it. The Daily Times should be ashamed of themselves. It's not politics dividing us here--it's the Daily Times and I,for one,am not going to read their nonsense anymore.
Again, a message to the county council Rick Pollitt does not need to expand his office and we do not need a tax increase. Please do what is right for the people of Wicomico County. Stevie, Bobby Culver, Matt Holloway I voted for you do what is right.
I have mentioned this on a number of occasions now.
This is the Best County Council that I have witnessed in my 54 years on this planet.
Despite - having had everything thrown at them but the kitchen sink (budget wise) - they have kept their composure and haven't succumb to the temptation of caving-in to special interest.
But this is no time for them to rest on their laurels to remain the Champion of State's County Councils.
MACO should take heed to Wicomico County Council's endeavors to place the taxpayers at the top of the totem pole verses special interest.
Please County Council members, do the right thing for the citizens of this county that voted to put you where you are.
Just wandering if there will indeed be a tax increase? I know Rick proposed 5 cents. Does anyone know if it will be less?
What does level funding mean? Same funding level as last years' funding level?
I am Republican and voted for the current Council people that I was eligible to vote for. However, I am also for the tax increae. The departments, inc. the Bd. of Education, have all taken serious hits. We have seen the effects already of the revenue cap. The County has to have income to keep going. Does everyone realize that a 5-cent property tax increase amounts to only $75 a year on an average home ($150,000)? That is just $6.25 a month. Now who cannot spare that much? Those who are against any increase will be the same ones whining when their favorite County service is affected.I'm a senior on a "fixed income" (and isn't almost everyone else, senior or not, on such an income?) who will gladly pay $6.25 a month to have the services I expect.

1:23pm I am a business owner and if the 5 cent tax increase is imposed do you realize what that will do to the few businesses here, including mine?
It is a hardship already trying to keep the doors to my business open. When is everyone going to realize we have to weather it out until the economy comes back to a somewhat normal?
I'm all for the "increase". My taxes will still be going down because the value of my home keeps going down.
The Revenue Cap ammendment made to the County Charter provides for revenue from property taxes over the previous year's income to increase by two percent or the CPI which ever is lesser.
I am sure Pollitt is smart enough to realize that he cannot enact a 6.7% increase legally. I for one would partipate in lawsuit that hopefully would end up putting him on probation or out of office if he were to enact such.
Pollitt isn't thinking about the taxpayers. If he were he wouldn't be doing this much of a tax increase. He'd get rid of two positions in his own office.

I tend to disagree with your assessment.
My position is more aligned with 2:13 & 7:03 Postings as I am also self-employed and am more affected by a tax increase verses holding the line on spending.
I can only assume you are on the receiving end - (the public dole).
Your political mentality is what has caused our economy to plummet to the levels we are now experiencing. Tax increases are recessionary, inflationary, and contributes to mammoth amounts of unemployment.
Sure the Board of Education has taken hits - but haven't we all?
Why then should we exempt them from the standards that they try to impose on others.
I say cut the departments even if it takes them down to the bare bone.

You are full of CRAP!! Another anonymous poster claiming to be a Republican in order to try to influence people. Everything you have said proves your are a Certified Democrat! Not all Republicans are a stupid as you may think they are.
7:03pm--You are wrong. The 5cent breakout is as follows: 4 cent increase gets the county the same amount of revenue it has currently.
The other 1 cent is what is allowed by the Revenue Cap. I heard Don Coffin accuse the same thing and he is wrong, too.
9:25pm--The job description qualifications has been changed to accomodate Morris by Rick or HR.I doubt if council will allow that, though.

LMAO.... I agree with you, but she is just as qualified as most of the County Council members so they will support her for the position. She is barely qualified to be a secretary and deserves to be nothing more.
Look at what this county has cut from the budget over the last 4 years. This county provides services cheaper than ANY other surrounding county. I don' think it has so much to do with the County not being a good steward of our tax money, as it does the public not understanding what it costs to provide those services. Sure, you may be able to nitpick your way through the budget and find some cost savings, but this county is pretty lean. Everyone has gotten on this trip that there is all this waste and it just isn't so. Lots of the comments I hear about waste are talking about programs by the Federal Government! People just don't understand, and are quick to open there mouths and create disention. MARK MY WORDS. SERIOUS CRISIS to infrastructure in the next 5-10 years, and part of the blame will fall on this council for not allowing the county to MAINTAIN its current level of revenue after cutting 14 million out over the last 3 or 4 years. It isn't sustainable. How about talking about taxes per capita for the eastern shore, the types and quality of services provided by each, and then say that this county isn't a good steward of it's tax dollars.
