I love Hummingbirds. I read if you put out a peeled banana it will attract fruitflies and Hummers will appear because they love fruitflies.

i'm VERY exciting this year for hummingbirds. My sister-in-law has quite a large colony(?) of hummingbirds and i really just started to get interested in them last summer. so i bought a feeder late last summer. i now have my first bird feeding from it just in the last few days! Can't wait for him (or her) to tell their friends so i can have my own groups to watch :)

1 cup of sugar to 4 cups of water. DO NOT buy from the stores, especially with the red dye in it. Mix it and bring it to a boil.

We now have at least 10 Hummingbords every single day.

Remember Folks, it's been very dry, so there's not much out there for them to feed on.

If you're going to attract them you need to make sure you clean the feeder/s regularly and keep fres feed out there for them daily.

Do you have specific plants ~ like butterfly bushes~ around the feeders? I don't but some say this is necessary. Any other ideas? I can't seem to get the little fellas to like me.

Love the pics. I have 3 feeders since they are so territorial, and I make my own food too. Fresh and safe that's the answer.

I love my hummingbirds we have 6 feeders out on the front porch I love to watch them through my kitchen window. We first started about 4 years ago I had 3 feeders then the population began to increase. So now we have about 20 to 22 they are hard to count because they fly so fast. When the feeders are full then we can get a average.I put fresh feed in daily.

12:54, my feeder is hanging on a shepard's hook type of pole attached to my south facing deck. My house is newly built and I haven't any landscaping so to speak of in my back yard. I get quite a few birds to feed. I will say the woods which surround my house are full of Mountain Laurel, wild Dogwoods, and Holly trees, so maybe those trees help to attact them.
