The newest member of Maryland’s congressional delegation, it turns out, might also be its most wealthy.
Rep. Andy Harris, the Baltimore County Republican elected last year to represent the Eastern Shore along with several Baltimore suburbs, holds assets valued between $1.5 million and $4 million, according to annual financial disclosure statements by members of Congress that were made available to the public Wednesday.
Harris, an anesthesiologist, appears to have surpassed Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin, who is worth between $1.4 million and $3.5 million and has frequently turned up as one of the state’s most well-off elected officials. Because lawmakers report the value of assets in broad ranges, it’s impossible to assess actual net worth.
Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett, meanwhile, who also typically reports significant financial holdings, received a one-month extension to file his report.
Harris’ disclosure statement shows that he earned $123,705 last year from Johns Hopkins, where he practiced medicine. The statement also documents $40,011 in salary he received from his time as a state lawmaker and $27,000 from his private medical practice, Tidewater Anesthesia Associates. A spokesman said Harris has taken a leave of absence from Hopkins but still sees patients at his practice in order to maintain his medical license.

Yeah, definitely. Millionaires know EXACTLY what it's like to have been laid off after 15 years with the same company, or to have your hours cut to part-time (and your benefits vanish, too). Then to lose your home to foreclosure while the doctor says since you don't have health insurance anymore, well, tough break there, boy. Having to tell your kids they can't play sports because you can't afford the "fee". Having to choose between the electric bill or groceries this week. Regular, middle class citizens have little to no chance at holding office anymore. The "system" pretty much requires big money to get into the club. Which is the way it SHOULD be, right??

Tim, Andy is a self made millionaire, give credit where credit is due. He's a Doctor and a Veteran. I have NEVER seen Andy Harris show SPECIAL INTERESTS outside of the actual citizens he represents.
I guess if I were to get into politics I too would be labeled the same as Andy.
Remember, this is America where ANYONE can live the American Dream. Funny part is, people like you are jealous that some have been able to achieve it while others complain about those who have.

How ridiculous to criticise someone who has worked his butt off to become a physician and worked hard enough and been smart enough to become wealthy. The attitude that this is somehow improper really burns me up!!
Joe, I have more money than the both of you put together, so jealousy is not a factor. Andy Harris is not a man of the people, he is the Baltimore elite, and there is no escaping that. I love how there are post all about how much the Western Shore keeps putting the screws to us, but the morons who surround me here on the Eastern Shore were dumb enough to elect someone who isn't even from here. What about the other guy Cardin?I guess because he is a democrat that automatically makes him for the people. Is that right? Probably be real interesting to see where all the campaign money comes from for these gentlemen. That usually tells you who is for the people. My guess would be all the big banks and special interest would be on the dems side.
5:53, it takes a lot bigger balls for someone who is a millionaire.to vote for raising taxes on millionaires than it does for a republican millionaire to say "no no we need our tax breaks" . No knock on Harris' personal successes, but what jobs has a wealthy johns hopkins physician ever created.
