At a press conference this morning, Salisbury mayor Jim Ireton and Councilwoman Shanie Shields cited three members of the city council and threatened racial discord in the city because the council’s refusal to approve “The Bricks” project.

I am sure it is not racial It is the city does not want to get into the rental business...and not all poor people or needy people are black...get a life!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so tired of the racial card being played. White people get discriminated against as much as the others now. Everybody just needs to stop and respect each other for who they truly are. This is so old.
I think the bricks is a bad Idea it would be cheaper to tear it down and rebuilt it rather than trying to revamp it!

FOLLOW THE MONEY. WHo are the parties involved and how much money will they get? Just like Barry Tighman and the Firehouse land--a fortune was made in that deal and this one smells the same.
Maybe some day, if I think long enough about it, I'll be able to figure out what the Bricks has to do with race. So now his three "buddies" on the Council are on the outs with him. Anyone wish Barrie were still there?
The Bricks is a dump and a true waste of taxpayer money. If a private (in other words, non-gov't) owner doesn't want to restore it then let it fall to the ground. The money can be spent more sensibly elsewhere!!
The city of Salisbury is quickly becoming a joke because these clowns can not run the city. Ireton is a big baby and shouldn't last a day more in office.

You would be wrong! Ireton specifically states that the council majority is undermining the "minority" community and that he (Ireton) is going to make sure that they know it. Shields says that she is going to take it to the streets.
Take it to the streets, Shanie. You've made a lot of mistakes, but THAT would be the biggest one of all.
Ireton has to go. He's a drama queen that will and has done anything to have everything his way, but this takes the cake.
How Ireton can take this road is beyond my comprehension, he's a minority himself. Take that to the streets.
Ask any landlord in town if all their rentals are rfull? NO they are not. Why make more?d Is the city going to hire more government to be the rental person? Believe me if there was any way these properties could be renovated Mr Gillis would already acquired them and have them rented or sold. Our council did the correct thing and I commend them for their actions.
What is shanie going to tell the street people? There are plenty of section 8 housing now...If some of them would get a job they wont need section 8 housing.
Let's get rid of that minority district and its token, and let true leaders run this city.

Let Racism Ring. This is why I HATE this area. You people have too much hate in your hearts for non white folks. There are more poor whites in this area living in section eight, receiving food stamps and living off of social security under the age of 30. Some of you can't even survive without the government helps that you resorted to a life of crime and incarceration. Before you start talking about the minority, you need to watch what you all are doing and what you all have already done.

the number of whites on welfare throughout our country do outnumber "a" race but not minorities combined, but only because there are more whites in a single race than any other. In our area, that is not true. Minorities outnumber whites. I think your comments 1004 is "the pot calling the kettle black" when you start talking about sect 8 housing, food stamps, incarcerations (are you kidding me?). And none of this is racial hatred, just statistical facts.
