Ocean View- The Delaware State Police hare arrested an Ocean View woman for stealing over $4000.00 from a sorority in which she was the treasurer.
The investigation into this case began after state police detectives were contacted by the president of the Beta Sigma Phi Chapter V/Xi Upsilon Sorority after they had been advised by their banking institution that the funds in two separate accounts belonging to the sorority had been depleted. Further investigation revealed that the sorority's treasurer, Becky L. Mills, had written numerous checks to herself from the sorority accounts between April 26, 2011 and May 12, 2011. The checks totaled over $4000.00. On two occasions, Mills had written checks from a business account that she owned to the sorority, and then wrote checks to herself for the same amount from the sorority accounts. However, both checks Mills had written from her business account were returned due to insufficient funds. Mills had been named treasurer of the sorority approximately a day prior to committing the first theft.
Detectives obtained warrants on Becky Mills for the above list of crimes. She turned herself in to state police on Wednesday, May 25, and was then arraigned at JP Court 3. Mills was then released on $400.00 unsecured bail.
