O’Malley Axes Two Baltimore County School Board Members
This is another great argument for an elected school board. The next time someone argues that keeping an appointed board takes the “politics” out of our children’s educations, REMEMBER this incident.
Michelle Wright should back out now. If O'Malley really cares about the board leading the school system and how they are perceived by the public, Wright will be gone. She just waits to see what Dr. Fredericksen wants or which way the wind is blowing and then votes for it. Willey has a single-minded view and wanted to get rid of the Magnet program since it started. As a Magnet parent who watched the many injustices this year, I think Robin Holloway is the only board member who should be reappointed. She's prepared with data, input and questions and is fair and reasonable to all sides. When she was president, the board led the superintendent, not the other way around like it is now. It is sad to see the continual decline in accountability, leadership and public perception at the BOE. They don't really care what parents (or teachers) think. More and more money is just folded into the kids that don't care anyway.

Just another reason to like a hybrid; some appointed, some elected. No complete power either way.
