Md. Has One Of The Country’s Richest Counties

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) — You don’t have to go far to find one of the richest counties in the country—it’s right in our backyard in Howard County.  Jessica Kartalija shows us what makes Howard County so attractive.

Money Magazine once ranked Howard County as one of the best places to live and now Forbes is ranking it as one of the most affluent in the country.

Joe:

So what's new -- for many years many of the richest counties are in the DC area or other places fueled by our federal tax dollars, such as Los Alamos, NM. This data is for 2009:

Rank County Median household inc.

1 Falls Church, Virginia $113,313
2 Loudoun County, Virginia $112,021
3 Fairfax County, Virginia $104,259
4 Hunterdon County, NJ $102,500
5 Howard County, Maryland $101,003
6 Los Alamos County, NM $100,423
7 Douglas County, Colorado $99,522
8 Morris County, New Jersey $96,316
9 Somerset County, NJ $96,233
10 Fairfax, Virginia $96,233

And Montgomery County, MD is in the top 15 -- and Calvert County and Charles County are in the top 25.

That is why several years ago Maryland passed New Jersey as the most affluent state.

So why do we also have about the highest taxes, per capita?

When I was a kid Howard County was rolling farms and lovely woods with homes here and there. We use to ride Horses in Ellicot City woods.
BUT THAN-SMART GROWTH!!!!!!!! Oh yes Smart Growth and all above disappeared into a Concrete Village kinds like NEW YORK.
Revolt against Smart Growth.

All those Virginia counties surround Washington and all those over paid federal employees.
