U.S. consumers face "serious" inflation in the months ahead for clothing, food and other products, the head of Wal-Mart's U.S. operations warned Wednesday.
The world's largest retailer is working with suppliers to minimize the effect of cost increases and believes its low-cost business model will position it better than its competitors.
Still, inflation is "going to be serious," Wal-Mart U.S. CEO Bill Simon said during a meeting with USA TODAY's editorial board. "We're seeing cost increases starting to come through at a pretty rapid rate."

Like this is a surprise?
Have you been to the produce section of WalMart lately? Prices are already up 30-40 percent.
Grow a garden this year, folks. Our grandparents and great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents did it in their yards and it weathered many of them through the Depression.
Walmart sucks. They prob just trying to raise capital for their lawsuit.
This CEO better not get hurt at work, either. Fighting with Wal-Mart's workman's comp is just that-a fight. They just want their injured workers to go away. I'm sure they figure if they make them jump through hoops the employee will just give up in frustration. They are "self insured" & ignore the laws. Guess they think they are big enough to make their own laws.
We had a 30x150 garden last year that kept our freezer full all winter long. We're going to repeat this year. Nothing better than FRESH food out of your OWN garden!
Their fruits & veggies are always past their prime. Bought 6 oranges Monday & they had soft rotten spots by Wed.
I guess they will hire more part time workers with no skills at substandard living wages with no benefits and demand lower prices from their suppliers that off shore jobs to meet their price demands and wave the red white and blue as the all american great corporation that is doing us all a favor
