House Democrats Fight GOP's "No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act"

House Judiciary Democrats held a meeting Tuesday to fight the Republican-backed "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act," a bill that seeks to ban federal coverage of abortion in certain cases of rape or incest.

Ranking member John Conyers Jr. (D-Michigan) joined Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-New York) and several other House Judiciary Democrats to fight the bill they call "an unacceptable attack on a woman's right to choose and a distraction from the economic relief that Americans expect from Congress," according to a statement from Nadler's office. California Democrat Reps. Maxine Waters, Judy Chu and Linda Sanchez also took part in the meeting, along with Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), Mike Quigley (D-Illinois) and Debbie Wasserman Shultz (D-Florida).

How is it that you post this news as though the Democrats are wrong? Anyone has the right to an abortion. If the woman is on Medicaid then should she die because she can't get an abortion since those are federal funds? I thought the GOP was interested in shrinking the size of government instead of increasing it? I don't see a problem with using federal funds for abortion. It's not as though massive throngs of women are going and having this done at taxpayer expense. You act like Fox News by scaring people into thinking that is happening.

Abortions should be legal, accessible and rare. They SHOULD not be used a form of contraception. If it comes between a woman's life and fetus', the woman wins out because she can always have another child or at least she can adopt a child who needs a home. You can't force your religious views on anyone but yet the right wing tries to do that everyday. They claim to know what the Constitution says and then they are able to show EVERYDAY that they don't know what's in there or mis-interpret it. Leave abortion alone.

Hoo-rah Ed, and it is even more sinister than that. The headline of this post (and the source article) are misleading and purposefully vague.

By keeping focus on the evil-du-jour, "tax-payer funded abortions," the GOP hopes you do not notice their slieght of hand as they call for tax increases on privates businesses AND dictate to them what insurance plans private business should choose.

The plan: If a business chooses a health care agency that allows for coverage of abortions, the GOP wants to remove all tax incentives from that company.

When did the GOP become the party of big government intrusion on private enterprise? When did the GOP decide it was OK to trample on your individual rights?

At least they fixed the economy and eliminated unemployment before embarking on their social crusade.

Wait...

I recognize the source of the material is left leaning, but facts are facts. Social issues, it seems, are more important than job creation, economic recovery, and doing what you told your consituants you would do.
