Harford Man Charged In Rape At Salisbury University

A Jarrettsville man was charged with rape last week in connection with an alleged assault on the Salisbury University campus in 2010, university police confirmed.

Aaron Joseph Riley, 22, of the 3300 block of Sharon Road, was charged Feb. 1 with second-degree rape, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, second-degree sex offense, fourth-degree sex offense, perverted practice and false imprisonment.

"The charges stem from a, reportedly a March 2010 incident that's alleged to have occurred in one of the Salisbury University residence halls," Associate Chief  Brian Waller of the Salisbury University Police Department said.

In November, a female student reported to the Salisbury University Police she had been sexually assaulted in March 2010 while in her room in Severn Hall, according to Waller.

The student, who is over age 18, said the alleged attacker was an acquaintance, Riley, according to Waller.

Police conducted a series of interviews, met with Wicomico County prosecutors and submitted an application for charges.

"As a result, the commissioner issued charges and arrest warrant," Waller said.
