If You Think Old Man Winter Is Over, Think Again

As much as many of us would like to think we're past the worst of the season, you could be wrong. The images above are from a late January snow storm last year. Weather around the world has been more than just unpredictable, it's been flat out cruel to many.

It has also been unusually cold this winter here on the Shore. I know I've been through 1 1/2 skids of pellets this year already and I'll order in another skid just to be safe. Keeping your Family warm isn't as inexpensive as it used to be, has it?

I'm expecting my Delmarva Power bill in the mail, probably today. As they say: "Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid!!" and I am. The bill just keeps going up even though the thermostat stays down.

We've burned 2 1/2 cords of wood already and have ordered more. The stove has burnt continually since late October except for a very few days when the temps reached 50. Unbelievable for this long a period of extreme cold temperatures.

I have burned 1.5 ton in pellets have 1 ton left might need to buy 1 more if the cold snap heads into March. November power bill 130.00, December power bill 120.00 and just got the statement for January 72.00..... I love my pellet stove!!!

I don't even want to discuss the cost of propane. It's a rip off.

Joe,

An idea for a post.

Why can't Delmarva Power begin a program similer to the Delaware Electric Co-Ops "Beat the Peak Program"?

They want us to pay for the "wind farm" that they plan to build by constantly raising rates. The end result will be that they will have a major energy producer with NO fuel cost to them and and a tremendous profit margin.

How long can the average person afford to pay these kind of rates?

Don't forget, DPOL also wants to raise our rates (AGAIN) to pay for their losing pension system!

They are a rip off!!!! My electric bill almonst $600! I keep my thermo at 66 degrees and live in a newer house.

I'm fed up! People start to get mad!

Just paid 3.19 for fuel oil. That comes to $640 to heat 1500 sq ft home, hopefully it will last more than a month. The last tank only lasted a month,

Delmarva Power does have a program like beat the peak, they will install a very nice thermostat for you for free, and during peak times (random-and at the amount that YOU choose) to cut back your thermostat. you will save money on your bill by signing up and will save money every time they take over your thermostat. again, it isnt like you are losing control. if you dont want the thermostat to be changed at that time, you can change it back.

That's if you have a heat pump. I don't.

We went through 110 gallons of heating oil between 12/22 and 1/14 and this fill up was $3.39/gallon vs. $3.09 for the one in December!
We use Aero Oil but I've gotta tell you, I think we're gonna be changing!
We're heating about 1800 square feet with a less than 2 year old furnace and the temperature is kept at 68 degrees. We also have to supplement the heat upstairs with electric because there's only one vent upstairs.
We're in the process of looking at "other" heating options, but who can afford a whole new system in today's economy?
