Blood Donations Urgently Needed Across The U.S.

WASHINGTON - The cold, nasty weather across the East Coast this winter has produced shortages of all kinds. One shortage in particular is threatening lives.
 
For the first time since 2004, the Red Cross has issued a national, emergency appeal for blood donations.
 
Because of the winter storms, more than 14,000 blood and platelet donations have been canceled. The Red Cross says the shortage has not been this dramatic in the last decade.
