Energy-Efficient Rebates Running Out In Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Time is running out if you plan to take advantage of the rebates being offered for energy-efficient appliances in Maryland.

In Maryland, you need to do so by Nov. 12.

"The funds have basically been all used up. We're prepared to honor all purchases up to Nov. 12," Ian Hines, spokesman for the Maryland Energy Administration, tells WTOP.

Hines says you need is a proof of purchase but the appliance does not have to be delivered or installed by Nov. 12. Your receipt and application have to be postmarked by then.

The rebates have been popular. In Maryland, people have applied for rebates for more than 14,000 clothes washers, 3,500 refrigerators and nearly 3,000 central air conditioners and air source heat pumps.

The rebates for selected ENERGY STAR-rated appliances are part of the federal economic stimulus package.
