SURVIVOR OF MEDEVAC CRASH FILES $50M SUIT

The Gazette: "The sole survivor of a 2008 Maryland State Police helicopter crash in District Heights has filed a $50 million lawsuit against the Federal Aviation Administration, alleging negligence on the part of air traffic controllers.
Jordan Wells, 20, of Waldorf filed the suit Dec. 7 with the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland in Greenbelt.
The suit states that before the Sept. 27, 2008, crash, the FAA traffic controllers who were based at Joint Base Andrews gave Maryland State Police pilot Stephen J. Bunker dated information on weather conditions, failed to guide him in the Trooper 2 helicopter to a safe landing as navigation equipment began to falter and did not alert paramedics to the scene of the crash."

Memo to Jordan Wells: You might be better off suing the volunteer farmin for calling the helicopter to transport you to the hospital. Your injuries weren't significant enough to warrant a transport to the hospital via helicopter. Most volunteer farmin call the helicopter to the scene of an MVC because it is cool. The Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services System(MIEMSS) has changed the entire protocol for requesting a helicopter and your incident wouldn't be justified for air transport. You are suing the wrong people for your injuries. You need to sue the fire department! Get a better attorney! The state of Maryland is long over due for pulling in the reigns of the fire departments.

Actualy 9:50, Ms. Wells accident and injuries met the criteria under, not only the old trauma decision tree, but also the new trauma decision tree. I am sure you are not privy to the details of her MVC or to her, or her best friends injuries that night. Granted there are as you call "volunteer firman" that do get their rocks off in their turnout gear to call the medivac and have it come there. Hence one of the reasons for redoing the protocols as updated July 1,2009. Since the update of the flight protocols, medivac transport numbers have dropped. I assure you that Ms. Wells incident did meet not only the old criteria, but also, the new criteria to be flown to the closest trauma center, that being Prince Georges Hospital. The main question is Should have MSP Trooper 2 have flown that night in the first place due to weather conditions? Also, the current fleet was found to not have the proper glide scope indicators or terrain alert systems( sorry I do not have proper names for these systems ) The new fleet of Augusta Westland helicopters that the state just purchased have all of the latest technology in them including the ones not in the current fleet of Dauphin's currently in use which are quite aged with some being 20 years old. We can all be critics of should they have or not have flown, but the fact is that this was a HUGE tradgedy for several families and no amount of money can change what happened. Mistakes have been made and bad decisions were made and the investigation is closed with recomendations of changes to "the system". Let's all just pray that a tradgedy like this never happens again.

8:29 and 9:43, Jordan had devastating injuries. Not only losing her leg, after several attempts to save it days later, but everytime she looks in the mirror and sees the physical scars of what happened. She also has to deal with the psychological scars of what happened that night everyday. Go to youtube and type in her name and watch some of the stories including the CBS story which is in 2 parts. This girl has ben through total utter HELL.

I am not saying she doesnt have scars physically and mentally, but I knew some of the people on the trooper that night. My firehouse That I volunteer at was the first responders on the scene of the down helicopter off of Walker Mill RD. But $50mil dollars is rediculous.

At $1.00 per bullet, we could have a good start at getting rid of lawyers.
