Wow, why not ? Its the only thing that can come to your mind right away when you see this picture. If that camera flash doesnt scare off that mountain lion this dude may be toast. I assume it was the flash which scared it away seeing as it probably blinded the cat judging by his eyes in the picture.

great pic...thanks for posting. I guess you would have to be a dumb cat to attack a well armed hunter but still very scary.

12:09 that cougar would have torn him to shreds before he could have chambered a round. Have you ever tried to pick up an angry house cat with all of his claws? Imagine a cat that weighs about 150 lbs and isn't tame - at all.
Actually, large cats and bears often follow/track hunters. Most times, when you field dress your kill, it's an easy meal for them. There have been studies done, that track the patterns of tagged animals, and those patterns change dramatically during the various hunting seasons.
It would have been a better photo if the elk and the cat were standing looking down at their fresh kill!

Did you ever consider the fact that hunters may scare them away from their usual spots in the forest ? That could also be another reason they patterns change so drastically during hunting season...
what would have been funny is if he went to get a buddy to help him load the elk and th lion at it while he was gone....that would be something to write about
