You Can't Be Serious

The newest member of the Supreme Court is in the minority in backing a stay of execution over questions about the safety of a drug to be used in a lethal injection. Shortly after the stay was overturned Tuesday, Arizona executed Jeffrey Landrigan.

Justice Elena Kagan  cast her first vote on the Supreme Court late Tuesday, joining the liberals in dissent when the high court cleared the way for the execution of an Arizona murderer.

The 5-4 ruling overturned orders by a federal judge in Phoenix and the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco that had stopped the execution by lethal injection of Jeffrey Landrigan.

His lawyers, in a last-ditch appeal, had raised questions about one of the drugs used in the execution. Since the only U.S. manufacturer of sodium thiopental had suspended production, Arizona officials said they had obtained a supply of the drug from a British company.

The judge in Phoenix put the execution on hold because she said she was "left to speculate" whether this drug was safe for its intended use.

sodium thiopental is a chemical with a certain chemical structure. It doesn't vary from chemist to chemist...if the country of origin is say, Sierra Leone, I can see where there might be a question about its authenticity. However, from Britain, I think its pretty certain that it IS what they say it is...For a U.S judge to find THIS as a valid reason for staying the legal execution order for a man who cared NOTHING for the suffering of HIS victims, well, thats a REAL stretch and she should resign...And further may I remind everyone, SHE is a LIBERAL judge, nominated by a LIBERAL president. THIS is what you get....How do you think the families of this punk's victims feel like right now?? Go ahead --- give your most stupid justification for this travesty of a judge...I'll wait...

The guy might end up like the dog that was euthanized and it didn't "take."

Nothing like making the family of the perp rich with a lawsuit for a failed drug.

If it didn't work (safe) then a second attempt might be viewed as cruel and unusual punishment and not carried out. Think.

What were they worried about...I might kill him?

Would be nice to see the bastard feel the pain of his victim!!

Just stand by with a pistol in case it didn't "take", but be sure to give it a good hour to work first.

they use a rapid acting sedative, a paralytic and a "heart stopper" in combination.(at least 3 drugs)If one doesn't "do it", the others will. (unless, of course they don't know what they're doing)The thiopental (sodium pentathol)is the sedative component and is a real kindness they don't deserve, imo. it's also very cheap.
