Will Tea Party’s Christian Ties Alienate Jewish Voters?

Members of the surging Tea Party movement, which has already swung several key primary votes its way, are strongly identified with Christian conservatives and see the US as a Christian nation, according to a new survey.

The results suggest that the movement – decentralized and grassroots though it may be – is largely composed of and in line with Republicans rather than representing a new voter pool.

Nearly half of those who consider themselves part of the Tea Party movement (47 percent) also identify as Christian conservatives, as do 57% of Tea Party Christians.

Three-quarters are Republican or lean Republican, and 83% plan to vote for Republican candidates this election cycle.

Tea Partiers surveyed largely agreed with Republicans and Christian conservatives on abortion, gay rights and immigration, and – at 55% – thought that American was a Christian nation in higher numbers than the two other groups.

Robert Jones, who heads the organization – the Public Religion Research Institute – that conducted the poll, pointed to this characterization of the United States for a clue as to Tea Party views on international issues; but he noted that those issues hadn’t been included in the survey.

Karlyn Bowman of the American Enterprise Institute, who participated with Jones in a panel discussion at the Brookings Institution Tuesday on the survey, said that almost no foreign policy questions had been asked in any of the polls of Tea Party members, so it was difficult to assess their attitudes.

The Democrat party of division is at work here! The TEA party is about Americans who are sick of being over taxed.

muslims and jews are also in the tea party. many religions are represented. i've seen these people being interviewed on tv so i know it's true.
the most important goal for this group of like minded citizens is our republic be returned to it's roots designed by the founding fathers; a return to the constitution; a return to fiscal responsibility and to get rid of the nanny state mentality.
everyone should provide for himself and we should not be giving our tax dollars to enable people to live off the dole. there are exceptions but right now there are too many exceptions. our nation can't take this irresponsible road much longer without total collaspe.
again; the tea party is representative of many faiths and cultures.

In RESPONSE to Anonymous 10:48: I agree, the days of continued financial irresponsibility are over. Either get with the program or crash. Everyone that I know are feeling some kind of financial crisis. All are tightening their belts, doing without, making due, postponing payments whenever they can because of possible unforseen new bills. And to that comment, I add my own, that only this morning the town manager called me to remind me of my unpaid town taxes that they are getting ready to place in the hands of a lawyer for collection (a little over 90 days after being sent out). The town manager is a friend and told me employees took a volutary reduced work week rather then lay some off. I would have never considered this urgency to collect money a possibility before, after living in town for over 10 years. The point is everyone is trying to come up with the deficit including small towns. And the federal government must do the same or crash. It cannot continue as before. That's the reason the Tea Party is moving forward, people are dropping old stagnant party affiliations and using their common sense for change. Politicans had better drop all new expenses to Americans in the toilet because they can take NO more, get those deadbeats up and off of their couches, have multi-millionaires START paying what they owe and start demanding big business, to produce their goods in the United States or take them elsewhere to sell. And unions? I'm not certain that you deserve even half of what you blackmail businesses to pay you, but be certain that those that are willing to work the same jobs as yourselves for a fraction of your wage, will eat this winter, while your family goes without. It's simple economics, suppy and demand, the American way, and not one of your representatives are going to promote less wages because they're all to greedy. Use your brain, this is a cakewalk to figure out. Take less or go down in flames. I do it all the time, it's not a big deal at all.
