Make A Fruit Fly Death Trap With Apple Cider Vinegar And Dish Soap

Fruit flies can be an annoyance but you can get rid of them using stuff right from your kitchen, no tools required. One method is to pour apple cider vinegar in the bottom of a glass along with some dish soap. Come back after leaving it out for a few hours and you'll have yourself a nice cup of dead fruit flies.

I find red wine vinegar is an even better trick...in a dish, cover with plastic wrap and poke a hole with a toothpick....perfection!

Came upon it by accident, but I left a half-filled coffee cup (with cream/sugar) on the counter. A few hours later, couldn't hardly see the liquid for the amount of gnats/fruit flies floating.

I use 1/4 cup of orange juice and 2drops of dish soap in a container at least 4 inches deep. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and seal with a rubberband. Poke 3 holes in plastic wrap and set in a windowsill in the kitchen. I have been experimenting for years coming up with the perfect fruit fly trap, this method works within minutes. The little flies signal their buddies that there is a feast to be had, they all crawl in and no one crawls out! Gross but effective- guaranteed!

I have done this before and found that it only attracts more fruit flies in the house although it is effective. For the past several years I have poured a cap of bleach down the drain and this was even more effective and it immediately eliminates them, and they aren't attracted to come inside.

buy 150 frogs. keep them in the kitchen and on the counters.

I agree with Christan. I find that the vinegar/dish soap only attracts the flies. The best way to keep them from coming in your house is to pour bleach directly down your drain. I usually pour a little down the drain a few times a day, and a little more at night when it can sit.

The same basic idea works with a little beer & dish soap. Add that bleach in the drain & you've got the solution.

9:53 - I have used the vinegar, beer and dish soap solution. We also use the bleach in the drains (which by the way is not good for your septic system!).
Yes, it does attact them and I'm dumping hundreds of them a day but I'm also apparently attracting that many more!
My house is inundated with these pests in EVERY room of the house!
I'm not the only one either. A coupld of my co-workers say they have them real bad too.
My house is CLEAN and I find this problem to be disgusting!
There has to be a way to get rid of them!

How bout you just clean up your house! Solves alot of problems at once.

Wish there was an easy solution for getting rid of stink bugs. I'm starting to see them everywhere now. My in-laws in Western Maryland say they are really bad in their area.

11:08 is right.Too much bleach can kill the "good bacteria" in your septic system that (dont barf here)"digests" solid waste and keeps your septic tank from backing up.The best prevention is not to let dirty dishes pile up and keep sinks clean.
My father-in-law summed up fruit fly traps perfectly-"sure,they kill 500 fruit flies but then another 500 show up for the funeral"........

What an idiotic comment!
Fruit flies (gnats) have NOTHING to do with whether or not the house is clean.
Projecting here are we?
