Evolution Craft Brewing Company Gets Boned By The City AGAIN!

Perhaps John Pick and Jim Ireton are so comfortable with their job security, there's no need to bring in any businesses to Salisbury.
The Evolution Craft Brewing Company purchased the old Union Station in Salisbury hoping to start their brewing company right here in Salisbury. However, the City came back at the AFTER they made the purchase of the building and told them they wanted an "impact fee" of more than $100,000.00!!!!!
Because of the City's proposal, the Brewing Company purchased another piece of property in Delmar, DE. and set up their first plant. Because of the growth, they have been shopping around for yet another building as they will need a space 10 times what they currently have to handle the demand.
You know the old Ice Plant across Rt. 13 from the Hospital. Well, they have allegedly been in negotiations to purchase the property but when it came time to negotiate once again with the City, this time they were told there would be a $300,000.00+ impact fee. Mind you Folks, this company doesn't use sewage or waste water. All of their water is used to manufacture their product and there is no waste.
We're told the company will now consider expanding their facility in Delmar. Spread the word Folks. Salisbury has NO INTEREST in ANY company moving to the area as their Waste Water Treatment Plant cannot handle what it already has, let alone any additions.
Thanks Barrie Tilghman!!!!!!!!

Not that I agree with the city, but doesn't the impact fee include consumption of water, which I assume would be pretty high.

Wow, that is a shock. Evo not only puts out a great product, but is a budding local business that should be promoted in the area instead of discouraged. I guess Salisbury would rather have small businesses operate outside of the city so there is absolutely no monetary benefits.

Folks...it is very simple...You cannot fix STUPID. Salisbury is not business friendly. Twinkle Toes doesn't get it and neither does the council. EVO is a huge success story and Salisbury will not benefit from it.

And Salisbury most certainly does not deserve to benefit from EVO the way they have been treated by the players in the city!

Damn Salisbury they are missing the mark on this yet again... shouldn't we business friendly instead of being against it?

Mr "Twinkle Toes" wants nobody in his territory: Kick and keep businesses out with unthinking impact fees (a disguised method of paying for normal maintenance that allows funds to be wasted elsewhere; get rid of all rental properties because the only folks who rent are disruptive criminals that overburden shortchanged resources; and, make the cost of homebuilding and buying prohibitively expensive so new residents won't even consider coming to town if there were jobs to be had.

The Knorr brothers have done a lot for the area and for people all around. Denying them is not only wrong, it makes one wonder how many other potentially lucrative businesses haven't even bothered.

If you really think about it they are looking at the old ICE plant. Isn't ice 100% water? So where is the additional impact seems like a similar use. As it is quite apparent Salisbury is the most business unfriendly town around.

Why have impact fees when they will end up paying a water bill for what they use. Sounds like double taxation to me.

you can bet your life that any town that would charge 3 restaruants $50 each so they can put chairs and tables on their sidewalks does not want businesses in town. again, govt out of control. no business would want to settle here with that attitude around them. its a shame that when people run for office they dont keep their promises. we were told help was on the way but i think it got lost. thanks sjd

Evo: please stay in Delmar and expand your brewery here! You can expand here and be in 2 different states! How about bringing one of your great restaurants to Delmar? Salisbury's loss is Delmar's gain!

So, give something away just to make rich people even more rich? Use your heads people. The city is in the right here. Why should I have to pay an impact fee when I build a new house, but a business should not?! Do we really want beer to be made in that part of town anyway? Isn't it bad enough there? Might as well build a brothel and crack house while you're at it!

Anonymous 5:20, an impact fee is for a business that has never been hooked up. That location already has water and sewer.

How does Tilghman get dragged into this incident? Sounds like a personal agenda on top of current administration being greedy. Piling on!

Salisbury government is completely broken and totally dysfunctional with this just another example. I once thought things couldn’t get much worse then comes another day of massive political ignorance. The entire bunch needs to go all at once next election with no overlap to clean this mess up.

I bet if the college or the hospital wanted to put a brewing facility there it would be no problem. cj

Hey 5:20

I'm all for creating jobs in Delaware. It does not necessarily need to be in DELMAR. I'd love to see a really nice micro brewery and watering hole in the Fenwick area. There is plenty sewage capacity here and more being installed every day.

6:49pm you are correct on that thought!

But lets not forget Louise just wanting to all but 'erase' the Oasis car wash owners debt to the city- that's a 100% nothing but water business. Yet they won't negotiate with a business that would most likely create jobs, bring revenue. Bunch a winners this city has in office.

cant believe they even bothered looking in sby again, why bother?
city gone to s##t
politicians bicker n get nothing done

actually Joe, you are wrong on this one. Not only do they emit waste, but it is high in BOD, which is something the city has to test for. Talk to your friend Carl on the Delmar town council and find out if Delmar's BOD levels are higher since they moved to Delmar. I would be willing to bet they are- though to be fair, I have not read of any violations by Delmar because of this. The fact is, they do produce waste. If someone told you that they are mistaken.

So far Breaktime is the only place I can find Evo. Anyone know any other place where it is served/sold?

J.Albero said...

Go right to their plant in Delmar.

They also own the Red Roost, Boonies and Specific Gravity and I believe they serve EVO at all these locations. However, they serve the widest variety of their beer right at the brewery.
