From the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, conservative broadcaster Glenn Beck told a crowd of tens of thousands of people Saturday that the U.S. has too long "wandered in darkness."
His rally's marquee speaker, Sarah Palin, praised "patriots" in the audience for "knowing never to retreat."
The two champions of the tea party movement spoke from the very spot where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech 47 years ago. Some civil rights leaders who have denounced Beck's choice of a venue staged a rival rally to honor King.
Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee who may make a White House run in 2012, said activists must honor King's legacy by paying tribute to the men and women who protect the United States in uniform.
Beck, pacing back and forth on the marble steps, said he was humbled by the size of the crowd, which stretched along the Washington Mall's long reflecting pool nearly all the way to the Washington Monument.
"Something beyond imagination is happening," he said. "America today begins to turn back to God."
"For too long, this country has wandered in darkness," said Beck, a Fox News host. He said it was now time to "concentrate on the good things in America, the things we have accomplished and the things we can do tomorrow."
Neither Beck nor Palin made overtly political comments.
Palin, greeted by chants of "USA, USA, USA" from many in the crowd, told the gathering, "It is so humbling to get to be here with you today, patriots. You who are motivated and engaged ... and knowing never to retreat."
"We must restore America and restore her honor," said the former Alaska governor, echoing the name of the rally, "Restoring Honor."

Alex Gets his news from Entertainment tonight and sadly represents the intellect of the left. He show himself to be a mental midget and I would bet the farm he has not even watched glen beck but if keith oberman or rachel maddow say beck is bad then ALex believes it. Faith,Hope,and Charity are against Alex's religion. Oh thats right people like Alex put their faith in Government. The Government alter is where he prays. Giving 5.5 million dollars to the SOWF is great thing but that means that ALEX would have to support the military or aleast realize that they are doing a job most people don't want to do but these heroes do and some don't come home. The very least we can do is make sure their kids have an opprtunity to go to college. Stupid people like Alex will never contribute anything to society. He will only take because in his world, he is owed. Well those of us giving are tired of people like taking.
Alex should be thanking all the people who have served and/or died in the service of their country. They are the ones who protect his right to make a fool of himself anytime he wants to (which he excercises on a regular basis). Yes Alex is broken and can't be fixed. The government has been paying people like him to multiply for years in their effort to dumb down society enough to allow them to do what they are doing right now. Fortunately there are thinking, intelligent people who are waking up, but Alex will sleep right through it until the government is bankrupt and can't send him his check. Then he will wonder what happened.
Having stood on my feet for approximately 8 hours at the Beck rally in DC, I think I can speak with some integrity regarding the presentation. Palin, King, Luttrell, the Marine that lost both hands, the American Indian, and approximately 240 Americans on the Lincoln Memorial representing all different denominations and religions was a tremendous witness.
I estimate that over 500K were present, and I did not see one political sign, as requested by Beck. Our Founding Fathers, Abraham Lincoln, Federick Douglas and Martin Luther King would have been very proud of the gathering, the theme, and tribute and apprection expressed towards them, and for the Gettysburg Address, Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution.
I am convinced Providence also was looking over the event, waiting and watching to see if we as a Nation return to Him and His guiding principles.
Look at the grounds after the rally. These were people that CARE about AMERICA!!!! They didn't leave it filled with trash like the liberals did in January of 09.

From what I read here, Alex is not the only one stupid. When will the American people grow up? We are all stupid and will soon be in chains.
