WICOMICO COUNTY REJECTS TAX DIFFERENTIAL FOR DELMAR, FRUITLAND AND SALISBURY

Although this is not “breaking news” – it happened 3 months ago – the public is largely unaware that the County has flatly rejected a detailed analysis by highly qualified financial analysts who concluded that property owners in all three cities should pay lower real estate tax to Wicomico County because it does not furnish certain services in those cities that are provided by the city government. Here is the Executive Summary from the report as well as the County’s letter to Salisbury’s Mayor telling him to forget about it.

By the way, since Mr. Shea is not the County Executive, but rather an administrative assistance to the Executive, you wonder why he signed the letter to Mayor Ireton, rather than Rick Pollitt.

The county executive doesn't have time to sign things , thus he didn't know anything about this. Tricky Ricky

Good, they waste to much money now. We only need one level of government and thats the county.

it seems we kick this horse every year or so. Stop wasting money on consultants!

9:30 a.m., in yesterday's paper Ted Shea said he knew nothing about a final report. Noboby knows anything????

Speaking of the rag, funny how they were all gung ho for a tax set off when Barrie was mayor and now they want to drop since it's Ireton.

Bet it would be a different DT tune if Comegies got elected.

Ted Shea signed it because he is the boss

It doesn't surprise me at all that this was rejected.
Maryland is a double taxation state so why would they back off on "this" double taxation issue?
They won't - ever!
Anyone living in Wicomico County needs to just make damn sure they're living in the "county" and not in one of the municipalities within the county. That's the only way to escape THIS double taxation measure.
You'll still be double taxed - just because you live in Maryland.

Good for Wicomico County for holding it's ground. The city of Salisbury and other municipalities need to disolve their charter and be absorbed by Wicomico County.

Here is a thought to consider. When you live in a municipality where do you pay your double taxes? You pay it to Wicomico County. Nothing is ever said about the county collecting your taxes at the county level at their expense?

When Rick was in Fruitland he was all for this. He's the one who said how unfair it is for Fruitland taxpayers to pay taxes twice for police coverage 1)city, 2)county. Now that he's in the big seat his memory isn't recalling any of this. Good thing there are Minutes from meetings when he spoke up for it.

Fruitland, stop spending money on a dead horse. You knew going into this it wasn't going to work. Stop spending taxpayers money as if the well won't go dry.

It's a shame. Perhaps if the county didn't continually cut back on services to the municipalities people wouldn't be so upset. We can't even get the county to send a street sweeper to Delmar! They cut it from the budget. We have our own fire, police, library and middle and high schools outside of Wicomico County- they only supply us with an Elementary school (complete with trailers), but we pay the same as county residents that enjoy a full compliment of services they would never dream of giving people in Delmar, Mardela, Fruitland, etc... it's shameful.
