Councilwoman Terry Cohen Rescues Beagle

This morning I received a really cool phone call from Councilwoman Terry Cohen. She had been outside when a 12 year old Beagle cam across her property. She called the animal over to her and it came right to her.

She checked his collar and found a tag but the phone number was partially scratched off. This didn't stop her though. She made 10 phone calls before she finally hit the right number.

One SU Student had lost the dog and they were reunited this morning. Great Work Terry!

Joe,

Although I keep tabs on your blog when I can, (especially the animal stories and local human interest), I'll break the rule about posting on it just to say thanks for the pat on the back, although I didn't call you expecting you would post the story! Given your reputation for reuniting animals and owners, I just thought you could appreciate the funny karma coincidences surrounding the timing of finding this beagle (which was actually in the road near my home as I was on my way back from dropping the children off at school and running a short errand).

I'd like to note that a gentleman also stopped for the dog and assisted me in petting and detaining her for the tag check. I'm sorry I didn't get his name (we were both focused on the dog), but perhaps I can send a big thank you to him and the karma can continue.

We have so many kind people in Salisbury (and wonderful animals, too). Let's try to keep that in mind as we work toward making Salisbury a better place for them to live.

Thank you for allowing me to share a positive moment.

Terry, I posted the story because I want others to realize, (no matter what your position is) that you and Debbie do wonderful things all the time.

I know you didn't call me for the credit for such but when someone does special things for animals that have no voice, I want others to be encouraged to do the same.

So from me to you, thank you Terry Cohen and all of the rest of our readers who do such a fantastic job taking in these animals and giving us the opportunity to reunite them with their owners.

What many may not also realize is that when we do this service, the Humane Society has less animals to care for. This saves the taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars every year and for what it's worth to all of you, it saves lives. If we can reunite these animals with their owner, there's no chance this animal will be sheltered and possibly put down.

So Kudos to ALL of you.
