My Dog

This morning I went to sign my Dog up for welfare. At first the lady said, "Dogs are not eligible to draw welfare". So I explained to her that my Dog is a mix in color, unemployed, lazy, can't speak English and has no frigging clue who his Daddy is. He expects me to feed him, provide him with housing and medical care, and feel guilty because he is a dog.

So she looked in her policy book to see what it takes to qualify. My Dog gets his first check Friday.

Damn this is a great country.

It's amazing how people charaterize everyone on welfare as being lazy, unemployed, non english speaking....etc...etc! So I guess all of the Katrina victims should give all the aid the government provided to them as well, cause helping someone in need in this country is the last thing anyone wants to do.....that is unless it benefits ones self. Say what you want but this has a strong sterotypical racial undertone.

Do cats qualify?

If so, I am on my way to the welfare department!

8:10 -- the majority of Katrina victims spoke Ebonics. Ever since the "Victims" left New Orleans; N.O. has been experiencing less of a drain on their Social Services funds. Why work when the gov't makes it easy to take handouts whenever you want them.

8:10 - get the stick out of you A**! For the people who lost everything by Katrina, yes, help them, but put a time limit on the benefits. A year should be plenty enough time to move, settle in, and find a new job. The point here is that there are more than enough people that receive welfare that are just too frickin lazy to get off their butts and work! It irritates me to no end that I pay for people to sit home all day and do nothing! Can't even raise their kids right! Get a f-ing JOB!!! No one is too good to work fast food.

You know, I'm not against anyone getting help, "if they really, truly need it", but the majority of those receiving help are not in that category. Some people work, get paid under the table, and still get all the benefits that can be handed out - that just plain, is not right. And 8:10, you're just full of yourself today aren't you? Would you happen to fall into the "I don't really, truly need it, but I'm gonna get all I can category"?

I guess grandma, grandpa, and the disabled all fall into the
"unemployed, lazy, can't speak English and has no frigging clue who his Daddy is. He expects me to feed him, provide him with housing and medical care, and feel guilty because he is a dog" category. They are the ones soaking up the vast majority of welfare and are the biggest strain on the national debt.

8:10 and 9:23 I can only hope you are the same person. Gee, I wonder why the Katrina victims (not all of them) had to be given so much. Could it be that they don't know how to do anything for themselves because the "government" has done everything for them? So pathetic!

9:49, not the same person. But I see that you don't have a thing to say regarding the facts I presented.

I also guess you don't have the experience of losing a home and then the insurers telling you your policy only covers the hurricane, not the flooding, suck up your loss. Or the loss of your home AND your business/job. I guess you are just such a superman that will never need any assistance no matter what happens. If so, good for you.

9:23 I hope you never have to know what it's like to face disability. I have to live it each and every day. Do you know what it's like to have to call others for basic help just to survive each day? Yes, I collect disability but I also paid into the system for many years. I miss the joy of meeting new people each day and being able to help those people. Do I feel guilty for needing a monthly check? No. It's the only way I can survive. Think before you speak. Who knows who may take what you say seriously and decide it's better for everyone if they weren't around any longer. Would that one check help the system? No.

I know there are some who sit back and collect disability and welfare checks illegally. Don't put all of us in that same group. I don't collect welfare. Am I elligible, yes. I don't collect it because I know I don't need it for basic survival.

Answer this then!

If you KNOW you live in a FLOOD PLAIN, why don't you also have FLOOD insurance?!

MANY of those people should have had the additional insurance and if you can't afford to buy it, then don't build or buy there!

When hurricanes take out coastal properties and the people don't have flood insurance, I don't feel that MY tax dollars should bail them out. That's not fair to me!

As far as the majority on welfare falling into the categories in this post, I feel it is accurate.
Welfare needs a total overhaul and more people checking the people getting the checks monthly.

I'm not against people getting a check for disability if it is a true disability but there are those (and I used to be friends with one) who CLAIM they are disabled and they are not. The private investigators finally got this ex-friend!

Ride by some of the properties with people on welfare and you'll see they live in shacks but then watch the cars parked in the driveways at night and they're nicer than my vehicle! They know pretty much they're not going to have people checking on this after 5:00pm!

10:37, sorry if my comments were misconstrued, but your story is exactly my point. The vast majority of people receiving aid have a legitimate need, yet people want to use the relatively small percent of those abusing the system to paint everyone recieving welfare as being "lazy". Also I always point out that while many people (ex. 9:49/11:01)) fall for that "welfare queens in cadillacs" line, they fail to see that the true welfare programs weighing down on the country are SS, Medicade, and Medicare. Their so-called fiscal conservatives are too scared to attack the problem head on.

And don't think the Dems are any different. They scream about "he wants to let granny starve" without seeking any real reforms either.

Overall the point it stop using people who recieve benefits as a scapegoat and attempt to solve this fiscal problem while still allowing us to be truly compassionate to those in need.

11:01, "As far as the majority on welfare falling into the categories in this post, I feel it is accurate"

Thats the point, you "feel" something that is not true! Think I'm wrong. Find me a single report that estimates fraud to be anywhere close to a majority or even 40%. Most reports have fraud accounting for well under 10%. Go after those people, but don't demonize everyone else.

As far as insurance, many were told by flood insureres that "no it was a hurricane event, so we're not responsible".

12:15 - Fraud is counted in cases where the recipient knowingly deceives/cheats/lies to officials in order to receive welfare benefits when they do not deserve it. For example; a person has a job and signs up for welfare to receive two checks.
Fraud is not counted when the recipient fails or chooses not to make any progress on his/her life, living situation, and or get a job.

The majority of Welfare recipients choose not to make progress, thus not qualifying as a fraudulent case.

As for the insurers that won't cover the damaged houses; if you live in a fish bowl its bound to happen. You can't save everyone and you can't protect the stupid and weak forever.

I say give drug tests to all of those "in need" of assistance and see what happens... Or how about stopping these single women from having 5,6, or 7 babies all from different fathers, it's funny how they can accept monetary assistance but they can't take the free birth control given to them every month pleaseee... give me a break.
