Book Em Chief!

If this part of today's DT editorial is true, Barrie & Ireton have infringed on the Council's turf (not to mention the total irresponsibility and secrecy).

The Library Board was told by former Mayor Barrie Tilghman that it could purchase any available downtown lot it wanted; a proposal could be written to meet the needs of the library. And before he was sworn in as mayor, Jim Ireton reiterated that offer.

In May, Mayor Ireton was told that Lot 10 -- the site of the Saturday morning flea markets, was the board's first choice. A presentation was made to the City Council in June 2009. In August, council approval was secured in a work session with a 3-2 consensus. But in January, the mayor told the board Lot 10 was not available. Ireton said the library could acquire any other downtown lot it wanted.

I wonder who the "2" in the 3-2 vote were? If so, Ireton was just doing what his "owners" wanted by reneging on the Lot 10 purchase.

Why would you believe any thing that rag, you call a piece of crap prints. They do not know what is correct in any other story so why do you think there is a ounce of truth in this editorial?

I dont understand why there needs to be a new library the current one works just fine and serves the purpose. Im not seeing the fact that certain people think that it is too small or dated. If the library wants a new building then it should not come from public funds unless the new building is needed because of fire or some other disaster. Otherwise a new building is just another frivolous purchase like a fire boat or laddertruck or a oversized fire headquarters building

I never go downtown now because of nowhere to park. And now theres going to be one less parking lot?

There is no need for a library these days since the advent of the internet. Now that we need information we look it up on line. Before we used to have to use card catalogues and hoped they had the books on the shelf.

What good is the library these days? I would think that libraries would become obsolete in the very near future. I am not paying taxes for a dumping ground baby sitting service. I also get indigestion paying taxes for free internet at that library. Keep it the way it is or shut it down.

What about the old Giant supermarket on rt 13? (near Walmart) Plenty of parking, and they can renovate it to whatever they want. What other business would come into that big vacant store in the near future?

MommaM: Maybe that would be a good place for a Burlington Coat Factory store. Heavens knows we've seen enough of their ads on local TV stations over the years, yet not one store within two hours of here. Closest store is in Christiana, one exit before the mall.

We don't need a new library!
Use the effin' money to renovate or let it go.
Just another case of pols ignoring the people's wishes. Damn government!
