Well, I would not advocating buying your furniture from Ollie's but Bassett's prices have always been overpriced. Their "sales" are nothing more than craftily raising their prices one month and the next month, lowering them under the guise of a "sale". LOL - one of the oldest tricks in the trade. How do I know. I used to work at a Bassett store. Somewhere like Furnitureland will give you a better deal and their stuff is halfway decent. Johnny Jonasik has good stuff but, like Bassett, is overpriced plus you have to help them pay for their new building. I am sorry to see people lose their jobs but not sorry to see overpriced ripoff stuff leave the area. The days of paying for a "name" brand have been over for a long time.
I have never found a thing at Johnny Janosik. I dont see what the big hype about that store is. I did look around at Bassett a few years ago but they too were over priced. I ended up getting the same EXACT set at Mikes for about $300 cheaper.
Where is Mikes? I am in desperate need of a new sofa and loveseat. The last set I bought was lazyboy and I cannot stress how disappointed I have been in the dwindling quality of their products. A previous Lazy Boy set lasted my family (passed down from parents to daughter) 16 years, this new set is only 3 years old and falling apart! The man I gave the old set to is still using it and loves it so now it is going strong for 18 years....sometimes I wish I was an indian giver so I could have the old set back!
mikes clearance center is the place to go for any furniture. They have great stuff at very reasonable prices and those 2 guys are very friendly and knowledgeable.
Mikes clearance center is a few miles past Bassett on the left hand side. I think all furniture has gone to crap. Our original set lasted for years and we also got rid of it to get something newer. The last 2 sets have not lasted very well at all. One we paid 3 times what we paid for the original and the last set was cheap. Neither lasted like our first set from years ago.
My wife and I have purchased several pieces at Mikes over the years and have always been pleased. The sales folks are very laid back and friendly, and never pressured us into anything. I'll go there again in the future.
I too have bought quite a bit of furniture. In fact when we purchased our new place we bought several rooms of furniture and they "shaved off" some of the cost that is quoted to give an extra deal....Will definitely buy from again and they have the nicest primitive items around also.
Is Mikes the place with the crazy commercials? I vowed to never buy anything from that place because the commercials are so darn annoying..but at this point a deals a deal!!
If Outten Bros is a church, I've bought a houseful of furniture from that church. Page has always been my salesman and should I be in need of anything, he would be the one to sell it to me, providing he is still there.
11:46 - I don't see Outten Bros. being any better than the rest of them. They prey on the people who really can't afford to pay so they can take it back and resell it. They'll finance just about anybody in house and that's why. That is where he's making his money. Back in the day Outten Bros was a nice place but they've really changed and for them to be putting "Christian" messages on their board is just horrendous! If you're going to do that, then practice what you preach!
2:19, Outten Brothers does finance in-house to help those customers that can not get credit any where else. If it wasn't for Outten Brothers they'd buy they furniture at the "Rent a Centers" of the world and pay 4 times as much for it. And for the record they do not resell used furntiure. From time to time they will have damaged or mis-ordered furniture that is sold in their clearance center and is marked as such. As far as the "Christiam" messages....I think it's refreshing to see a business that is not afraid to say "Merry Christmas" or Praise God and any other message.

i got a notice about a week ago about them having a sell out sale due to one owner leaving the business but they will be opened back up.

It can also be interpreted as a sign of the extreme power and success of Johnny Janosik.

I have bought a lot of furniture at Mike's Clearance Center in Delmar. They are nice to deal with, and the prices are good.

why not try a locally owned store in salisbury like Outten Bros??

"There is nothing wrong with the economy" , right ! Some ding-bat in Nanticoke said "supply and demand". Wake up and smell the roses Edith Bunker!
Outten Brothers is a church, not a business

Anon: 8:17,
Paige is still there and has been for over 50 years. Not sure why 7:43 thinks it's a chuch??
Outten Brothers is a furniture store and we just got a great deal on livingroom furniture at Ashley in Delmar.
