Delaware State Police Investigating Fiery Crash

Location: DE Rt 7, Limestone Road, north of Arundel Drive, Pike Creek, New Castle County , DE

Date of Occurrence: Saturday, February 20, 2010 at approximately 1:14 a.m.

Resume:

Delaware State Police are investigating a three vehicle crash that resulted in the death of two females.

The crash happened early this morning after 1 o’clock in the morning when a 2001 Buick Century was traveling north on De Rt 7 north of Arundel Drive at the same time a 2009 Toyota Yaris and a 1996 Ford Mustang were traveling south approaching the Buick.

The Mustang sideswiped the Toyota prior to it entering the northbound lanes where it struck the Buick’s left front. After the impact between the two vehicles the Buick burst into flames. The driver and a female passenger were trapped inside and died as a result of the crash.

The driver of the Mustang, a 17 year-old girl from Milltown, was taken to Christiana Hospital with multiple lower leg fractures. The operator of the Toyota was identified as Ihab Ibrahim, 35, of Wilmington was not injured.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be a factor in the crash. Everyone was wearing seat belts with the exception of the 17 year-old driver.

Both occupants of the Buick were burned beyond recognition and investigators are unable to make a positive identification. The crash is still under investigation.

OMG! May they rest in peace. I pray for the families who have lost two loved ones in a sensless and avoidable accident. Slow sown people and teach your kids to be respectful on the road. This is a terrible tradgedy that could have easily been avoided!

Maybe you should not be so quick to judge. it is still under investigation. just because the 17 yo seems to be at fault it says speed was not a factor. It could have been a medical condition or whatever. wait for the final conclusion before you place blame.

Telling your kids to slow down and be respectful on the road is just good advice. I did not place blame on the 17 year old. All the victims in this tragedy were young and could still benefit from guidance. We don't have all the facts yet but I am reminded of that poor man from Willards who died on the Bay Bridge from the recklessness of a very young driver. We need to tell our unexperienced and youthful drivers about such incidents so they may at least think about these kinds of things while they're on the road. God Blees these families...ALL of them are in my prayers.

The car could have been in the 17 yr old's blind spot if she side swiped it. But with the way teens drive, many of them are on their cell phone or trying to text or read text messages, which is careless and wrong. I agree our teens can be more careful and I doubt countrygirl@heart meant anything bad by what she said. I think it is good to have speakers in the high schools who have experienced personal tragedies like this and having the mock crash scenes before prom. It would not hurt to have them before homecoming also. This 17 yr old will have to live the rest of her life with this either way and I feel for her. God bless all involved.

there is no need to place balame on anyone. Im sure this girl is feeling horrible enough. And i hate hearing that teenage drivers are the worst. i never have text while driving, but i see grown adults all over the place doin it.
