Thank God I Didn't Pay For Today's Daily Rag

Did you get a load of what the Daily Times delivered today? I went on line and thought, they charge WHAT for this! Almost $2 Bucks! Davis Ruark and Mike Lewis hugging is the best they could do? Look, I'm not suggesting I delivered any better. However, you're not paying me $2 bucks a day to read Salisbury News and trust me, we get far more visits per day than the Daily Times gets per day on line.

Sorry, I'm just in that "mood" today. I feel sorry for all of those people who either wasted almost $2.00 at a store to get today's paper or those who were subjected to such junk while committed to a subscription.

When I walked down the driveway in 18 degree weather this AM, I could see the plastic bag sticking out of my newspaper box. I pulled it out and in the plastic bag was a whole bundle of sales ads. Sitting separately on top of the bag was the THIN newapaper with 4 tiny sections. They couldn't even put the newspaper in the bag with the sales ads. How pathetic. I guess the ads and coupons must be more important and valuable.

Well, just because you don't like it does not mean everyone is like you. Some people enjoy it and are willing to pay. Simple as that.

Coupons.

The Daily Times customers (stores and other facilities who order newspapers at their sites) insert their own ads now on Sundays. That is a sad day when paying customers have to do their own work. Someone told me they cut their day shift people in the mail room now. I feel sorry for the people who work there because they have layed off so many employees they are doing way too many jobs that were not even in their original job description. What will be next?

So, who kept my newspaper separate from the plastic bag of ads... The Daily Times or my delivery person?

I bought 5 copies. This week's coupons will save me well over the ten bucks I paid. The rest will be rolled into a log to heat the house.

10:20 Enjoy what exactly? There was nothing in it that was "enjoyable" except for the coupons. I don't get it but did make several calls to those who do and got the same reply from each one. They can't believe what they pay for stuff they already heard about a few days ago.

Those same coupons can be printed online for those who may not know it already.

I tried to use an online printed coupon once and the store told me they would not accept them. It had to be the real coupon. I tried to use it at a local grocery store. I hope the policies have changed???

Joe, even if you charged, I'd subscribe any day over the Daily Tabloid. You offer up-to-date and breaking news as it happens. I'll bet you have way more realiable sources than those wannabe journalists at DT. Keep up the job work. Everyone I know visits your site several times a day. I start my mornings with SbyNews and a cup of coffee each day. You rock!!

We would have liked to read Sundays Daily Times. Although we are a paid subscriber of 40 + years we did not get our paper today.
We called their office and they told us they would have one delivered bu 11:00.
Called back at 12:00 the machine said they close at 11:00!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess the next step is to unsubscribe.

I cannot express how embarrassed I am at this moment. After reading this post I went to the Daily Times site and viewed the picture of Sheriff Lewis and Davis Ruark. Don't get me wrong, I really like Sheriff Lewis but I think this picture is just too much. I am at a loss of words right now. I have a concern about the prosecution of this case with Davis Ruark being so closely involved with the victim. Professionals should never get this close to the cases that they are investigating.

Both are passionate about successful resolution of this case involving Thomas Leggs. As a parent, would rather have someone emotionally invested in the case. I hope Davis Ruark prosecutes this case with the same determination that he did in Anitra Pirkle's case. I know Sheriff Lewis will demand the same resolve from his investigators.

When I took the paper out of the box this morning the front page was dated: "Sunday December 3 2010!"

What am I missing 3:10?

Joe, you have nothing to be sorry for. You have every right to be a mess of jumbled up feelings; especially due to the events of the last 2 weeks. All of us real feeling people are jumbled up.

6:37: It's Sunday JANUARY 3 2010, not December...

It's no wonder Gannett stock is in the toilet...I've been getting the daily puppy litter for 17 months without paying! I cancelled...they stopped sending me bills and charging my credit card and yet I'm still getting it! No kidding!

Hey, 6:37 -- it's JANUARY 3, 2010!

10:48 you're exactly right. They laid off way too many people and then gave out the bonuses to the ones who do nothing but show up to work every other day and sit on their lazy butts. I feel sorry for the ones there that do the real work.

Thats politics and as usual a lousy business decision.

hey 8:11 and 7:35..i think he was referring to the fact it doesnt say December 3rd on the front page. i have one...it says January. so unless the Times is printing out one paper at a time, then 3:10 was just making up stories to continue the Times' bad rap
