Republican Establishment Donors Are Upset

There's been a lot of recent evidence that the old-guard Republican powerbrokers are still in charge-- and that they still don't 'get it'-- pushing people like Dede Scozzafava in the NY Congressional race. Or Fla. governor Charlie Crist, who endorsed the Stimulus bill, etc.

Still pushing their hand-picked candidates, even though many are so-called 'moderates' (AKA RINOs).

And they're crying out for emergency contributions to help them do it.

The Republican National Committee's chairman, Michael Steele is in hot water with some of the major contributors now.. probably because he is bucking the party line and criticizing the candidates and methods, and hasn't personally called the big donors to plead for their money.

Kinda like the local minister that won't go visit the old ladies every week.

But actually, this may be a good thing.

Why? Because many contributors are beginning to send their money straight to the candidates that they support, not to the state and national organizations who give the money to their hand-picked candidates.

And perhaps that how we can get this thing turned around-- starve the beast.

Send your money to the candidate-- let him or her use it ALL, instead of getting leftovers from the machine.

Don't send a dime to the national organizations until they prove themselves worthy of support.

They'll get the message eventually.

yes keep supporting/running the ultraconservative wing while the commonsense members from both sides of the aisle govern. Same goes for the ultralibs.

I'll be sending mine directly to Andy Harris just like I did the last time.

sending contributions directly to the candidate is definitely a grassroots tactic to show the national parties who we like and who we will hold responsible for not representing us. The way it is now we don't no where our contributions go and hold all responsible because they feel beholding to the national party because they want their money for re-election instead of meeting with all the voters instead of selected groups.

I wonder about this:

Have you properly cared for your self and family financially? Do you have debts? Do you have an emergency fund of about 6 months living expenses? Have you saved for your retirement? Are your kids education provided?

I believe 99% of us should contribute nothing to political campaigns. ONly those of us who have enough money to actually buy favors should "donate" or "invest" money into this wicked evil governmental regime.

What is your expected ROI (return on investment)????

Best government money can buy. If you can't afford to buy it (favors) then don't invest. Take care of yourself and family. This government and its participants are getting plenty of your hard earned money already.

I don't look at party affiliation anymore, I look at the cnadidate with the most common sense, that WILL REPRESENT me and my values, and have the guts to fight for us, not turn into a rubber stamp for the DC Elites.

I hate the term RINO. Within my lifetime -- and I'm only 42 -- the GOP had room for people like me. I'm fiscally conservative and socially/culturally liberal, and once fit well into the Republican party.

Now, the social conservatives who are trying to take over the GOP have no use for me, and in fact have proposed a litmus test to throw out the candidates I would most likely vote for. I don't want to vote for continued Democrat majorities, but I cannot abide by the the social conservatives, simply because I disagree with so much of what they hold near and dear. Who am I to vote for???

LOVE IT!!! Seriously, this may be one of the best posts I've read here. Most political postings on sbynews are so ridiculously biased and extreme in one direction that I find myself skiping over them. I've said it too many times... the ever widening seperation in this country is what will bring us down, but now I see news about a moderate politician!!! I don't care what party affiliation he claims, but he is moderate, NOT an extremist. I'm sorry, but an extreme Republican/conservative is every bit as dangerous as an extremist Muslim which is every bit as dangerous as an extremist Democrat/liberal. There is a middle ground and it appears that middle ground is shying away from corporate payoffs... I'm excited, this is progress!! Thanks for this one Joe!!

11:37 You are so right. Republican conservative values were once based on less government and financial prudence.
On the personal front it was live and let live, live your life the way you want to. Now it is all about living the way Christian fundamentalists say you should.

So all this hijacking of the party stuff is really Christian bashing?

The Tea Party movement, and conservative activism isn't about Christianity (though they're inseparably linked).
It's about THE CONSTITUTION. You know, the founding document upon which our Republic is based.
If you look carefully, you'll see that it was written by a group of RIGHT WING EXTREMISTS, and was signed and enacted at the peril of their lives. And they were Christians.
It's true that neither party has been faithful (not even slightly) to the principles in that document, and that is the problem.
That's why it's time to ignore the parties' apparatus and choose our own leaders-- that way, we avoid being forced to choose between a liberal and a marxist in an election controlled by party headquarters like in 2008.

I dunno.. maybe Schwarzenegger? :-)

It's not "who agrees with me.." it's what's best for the country? Who abides by the Constitution (much of your social agenda doesn't..)
If you can't abide with it, then YOU run-- let's see how many votes you get.
