Incident: Burglary / Theft

Location: 23700 block of Ocean Gateway, Mardela Springs, MD
Suspect: Male Juvenile, 15, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 22 December 2009 at 3:30 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to Maple Shade Juvenile Center in Mardela Springs for the report of a burglary. Upon the arrival of the deputy, it was discovered that one of the resident juveniles had burglarized an administrative office by forcing open a window and crawling through that window. Once inside the office, this juvenile took Christmas gifts that were designated for other children in the facility. The administrative staff had already recovered most of the stolen items from the juvenile’s room prior to the arrival of the deputy.

The deputy placed the juvenile under arrest and transported the juvenile to the office. Upon contacting the Department of Juvenile Services, the juvenile was detained in the Lower Shore Children’s Center pending formal court action.

Location: 7500 block of Hogans Lane Hebron, MD
Suspect: Kris L. Dawson, 28, Cambridge, MD

Narrative: On 24 December 2009 at 2:40 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 7500 block of Hogans Lane and met with a driver from a local cab company who reported that a customer was refusing to pay the fare. The driver stated that upon reaching his destination, Kris Dawson would not pay the fare. Upon the arrival of the deputy, Dawson stated that he did not have the money for the fare.

The deputy placed Dawson under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Dawson was released on Personal Recognizance.

Incident: Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute

Narrative: On 25 December 2009 at 1:56 AM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle operated by Atara Jackson of Cheriton, VA for traffic violations. During the stop, the deputy observed that both Jackson and her passenger, Antwine Reid, were extremely nervous. That, coupled with a host of other indicators led the deputies on scene to believe that criminal activity was under foot. A WCSO drug K9 team arrived to scan the vehicle for the odor of the presence of illegal drugs, during which the K9 alerted to positively. Immediately after the alert, the investigating deputies searched the vehicle and located what they recognized as cocaine in block form.

The deputies attempted to place Reid under arrest but he struggled against their efforts requiring the deputies to physically combat him. At one point, Reid managed to get loose and attempted to flee on foot before being taken down by the deputies. Jackson was taken into custody without incident.

All together, the deputies located just over two ounces of cocaine and just over a pound of marijuana inside the vehicle. Investigation into this case revealed that the pair had travelled to New York where they were believed to have purchased the drugs and were in the process of transporting them back to Virginia where they were destined to be sold.

Both Reid and Jackson were transported to the Central Booking Unit where they were processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Reid was detained in the Detention center on $200,000.00 bond while Jackson was detained on $100,000.00 bond.

Suspect: Eric S. Pugh, 46, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 26 December 2009 at 6:00 PM, deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a residence in the 700 block of Jefferson Street in an attempt to locate Eric Pugh, wanted on an outstanding Circuit Court Bench Warrant for FTA for a Criminal Jury Trial.

Upon arrival, one of the deputies observed Pugh sitting in the living room of the residence. Upon knocking on the door, Pugh headed to the rear of the residence in what the deputies believed was an attempt to hide. The deputies entered the house in an attempt to locate Pugh and subsequently found him hiding in a bathroom. Upon opening the bathroom door, the deputies attempted to place Pugh under arrest but he physically struggled, which required the deputies to physically combat him. Pugh was eventually restrained and taken into custody.

Pugh was transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Pugh was held on $4,000.00 bond. Additionally, Pugh was held on $10,000.00 bond on the Circuit Court Bench Warrant.

3. Male Juvenile, 15 YOA, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 27 December 2009 at 9:10 PM, a deputy en-route to a burglary call in the area of Moss Hill Lane observed a suspicious vehicle stopped in the roadway with no lights and occupied with three subjects. When the deputy approached the occupants, the deputy observed a bag holding marijuana sticking out underneath one of the passenger’s legs. Upon searching the vehicle, deputies recovered the marijuana and discovered the bag contained twelve smaller individually wrapped baggies. Based on the packaging, it was evident the trio intended to sell the marijuana.

Further search of the vehicle revealed three handguns, all three within easy reach of the occupants, stashed under the seats. Upon examining the handguns, all three were discovered to be loaded.

All three subjects were arrested. The two adults (Delva and Gie) were transported to the Central Booking Unit where they were processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Upon their initial appearance, both were detained on $150,000.00 bond each. The third suspect, the 15 YOA juvenile, was detained in the lower Shore Children’s Center.

Narrative: On 28 December 2009 at 12:33 AM, deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported burglary in progress in the 400 block of Bueclar Dr in Salisbury, MD. The homeowner awoke when a group of individuals attempted to pry open a bedroom window. The responding deputies stopped a group of five juveniles nearby that matched the description provided by the homeowner. During the investigation, all five juveniles provided false identities to the deputies and one attempted to flee on foot. The group was also found to have a concealed realistic looking .bb gun in their possession that would easily have been recognized as an authentic semi-automatic handgun. During questioning, the juveniles attempted to pass the .bb gun between them in an attempt to hide it from the deputies.
All five were placed under arrest and transported to the Sheriff’s Office where all five were properly identified. Upon contacting the Department of Juvenile Services, a decision was made to detain all five in the Lower Shore Children’s Center.
