Update On Tonight's Meeting

I have just been informed by the Mayor that the public is not invited to tonight's meeting with the three Fire Chief Candidates. Mole Time.........

Oh, really? Not invited?
With all the BS that's been going on the public ought to show up anyway-- hundreds of them-- and demand changes.
It's time to start holding some people accountable.

Remember what you said Mayor. We will stick by what is in the job requirements with no exception.

The firefighters have had a chance to see Hoppes as acting Chief for six months and they dont like what they see. Its business as usual with Gordy running the department and his old pal Dru by his side. Weve lost all respect for him and want a change.

The decision has already been made, come on folks, everyone knows that. Congrats Hoppes.

You guys have been fooled by another mare that answers to the 3 stooges. When will you learn? Ireton is a simple minded person and can't make a decision. NOT A LEADER. He has pulled the wool over your eyes again.

Well I was told by some salisbury firefighters, that they have a meeting with the mayor on tomorrow at 6 pm. Unsure of the location, but I heard that it's in reference to the new fire chief.

Local 4246, My ass, the job description also says "or experiance" thats the cavet in every posting. You guys should spend more effort working than figuring ways to get out of it.

I concur; Hopeless had six months to prove his self failing to do so. If only Hopeless would get Gordo out of his ass and stop riding his coat tail Hopeless might just have a chance. Until Hoppes severs ties with Gordo forget it no way it ain’t happening. I mean come on the man can’t make a simple decision on his own without first consulting with Gordo. You tell me who is the chief Hoppes or Gordo?

Take it from another paid dept., the guys will never be happy with the chief unless he lets them sleep even more, and pay raises fro everyone, and lets them makes decisions by committee. Stop crying you so called hero's, at least you have a job.

So let me get this right. This is a private meeting in a public place about a potential "candidate" that works for us, the tax payers and we aren't invited?

When did the Flanders Room of the Wicomico County Youth and Civic Center become free to the City of Salisbury? If it was free then again it is at our, the tax payers expense. If the city of Salisbury paid the bill then again it is at our, the tax payers expense. With that said we, the tax payers are paying for a room at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center and we aren't invited to attend?? Someone has got some explaining to do. How much did this cost and who paid for it? Did the candidates get free transportation? Did they get a hotel room at our expense? Someone please inform us as soon as possible!!

I find it humorous that you are attempting to bash 6:52 for a spelling error, when you can not spell the word "one". Please feel free to post again, I might need a good laugh later.

PS: I want my vote back!

And remember, no closed door meetings.

I was told there were about 70 firefighters in attendance. They could have held this event at the new 10 million dollar firehouse in the meeting room. Mr Gordy probably spent some more needless money or greased one of his pals to use the room.
Im told that Hoppes was not the firefighters choice in a ballot vote. I suppose they have had enough of the See/Gordy regime and want a change. What a shame that the choice wont come from within. Its a sign of whats going on in this city.

I would urge everyone to research this gentleman before you vote. Google chiefberniebecker.com and look at the related articles that come up. There are some serious issues surrounding his character such as firefighter deaths, misconduct and sexual harassment claims.

I state again, where else does a group of employees get to "vote" on thier boss. The paid firemen bi*** all the time about vol. elections, yet they want to vote on thier boss? Disgusting....... lets vote for the nice guy, that will allow us to work the least.

Yes it does show he had a sexual harassment claim...but never convicted. People are always trying to press accusations when it comes to sexual, racial, gender, religion "minority" issues etc. If you google anyones name you get all sorts of stuff from his/her past (true or not). I bet it had to do with a (female) person who didn't get a promotion they thought they deserved (happens all the time). The SFD currently has an employee who has been out for over a year because he was accused, but found not guilty to his charges. Accusations don't equal criminals or else the SFD would have a lot of vacancies.

Joe you have to stay on their ass its the only way to get to them. While they may claim to not read your site we know better and it bugs the hell out of them.

Sounds to me that Richard A. Hoppes, Wannabe Fire Chief got spanked by his own people.

Mayor and City Council are you listening?

anonymous 1:30, I DON'T THINK SO!

I suggest ALL of you Google Mr. Becker. There is NO WAY this man should have ever been considered! Shame on the Mayor AND the Board who purposely put this man through. Their purpose was to get this exposed at the last minute to push Hoppes into the position. Don't believe me, GOOGLE IT!

Joe I have googled the man and I am wondering why that guy was even considered. That goes to show you that a so called selection committee is useless and they obviously didn't do the job they were supposed to do. Those 3 individuals were the "Top Three" candidates for fire chief of the City of Salisbury? WTH!! You mean to tell me that out of 40 applicants they couldn't find a more qualified candidate within the fire department or locally? I beg to differ.

Jim Ireton needs to go ASAP!
