It's sad that these employees have to take this day off without pay. Whats worse is how the State keeps complaining about how they had to make cuts due to the budget. Today hundreds of cards were received from the State of MD's different depts. Inside it wished a Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year's. I guess the State officials has to make sure they don't make anyone mad by wishing anyone a Merry Christmas. If the State is so short in funding just how much did these printed up cards cost including all of the stamps?

One estimate on the cost of the cards were 5 dollars each. Wonder how many were sent.

Sure seems to me that was a BIG waste of money in a time when many services are abolished or being drastically cut back.

The State Government is too big and bloated with patronage jobs and pork spending.
Reduce the size of the Governemnt and reduce the spending!
Next, eliminate entitlments!

Things have not changed so much over the years in State government. If the people in power want something, they always find the money for it. The lower grade employees end up paying for it with days off. But little does management know that low morale is not a reason to be productive. Take a look around if you are a State employee. Have you not seen a slow down and an "I don't care attitude" since the salary reduction announcement. It's a lose, lose situation.

How much salary reduction did the Governor, his appointees and the rest of the Politians and their appointees have to take? Furlough days are just another paid day off for these people. There should be a law Nationally as well State and Local to make it so no Politian is exempt from any law or regulation. Then we will see how many will stay in office or institute these type of laws / Excexutive Orders on the working person.

The courts are open and I am not in an "I don't care attitude" I am glad I still have a job...my daughter has been trying to get one for 4 months, no luck, so I am glad I have a job, salary reduction or not...I get days off for those days with no pay....Times are tough...get tough
