ANNAPOLIS, MD – First Lady Katie O’Malley this Saturday will attend the 2009 Dogfest, an all day event for dogs hosted by the Baltimore Humane Society. First Lady O’Malley will judge for the main contest at 12:30: Best Costume
“It is an honor to attend the 2009 Dogfest and to join the Baltimore Humane Society and other animal lovers. In our home, we have three dogs — Lady, Rex and Winnie —and two cats – Butch and Zoe – that we consider part of our family,” said First Lady Katie O’Malley. “Especially in light of recent incidents of animal cruelty, we must do what we can to be the voices for our animal friends, protect them from harm, and prevent any future cruelty from happening again in our State.”
Dogfest festivities will go on all day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and benefits the Baltimore Humane Society, which has been in existence in Maryland for over 86 years. Legislators from across the State, as well as community leaders and animal advocates will also be in attendance. Over 65 animal rescue groups will be at the event including the SPCA, Defenders of Animal Rights, Partnerships for Animal Welfare. Some of day’s activities include Dog Contests, Dog Games, Pet Education, Dog Swimming Pools, Horseback Riding, Cat Rescue and over 100 dogs and cats that will be there for adoption to good homes. The First Lady will judge the Best Costume at 12:30 p.m. in front of the 101.9 Lite FM tower.
Earlier this year, in response to the burning of a pit bull in Baltimore City, Governor O’Malley asked Attorney General Doug Gansler to review the sufficiency of Maryland’s animal cruelty laws to determine if these laws need to be updated to prevent similar kinds of heinous crimes from happening again in Maryland. The City of Baltimore, under Mayor Sheila Dixon, has established the Anti-Animal Abuse Task Force to combat animal abuse in Baltimore. A representative from Governor O’Malley’s office serves on the task force.

If she wants to judge a dog all she has to do is turn over in bed and she will find a big dog.
"Phoenix" was the 2 yr old Pit who made news when she was doused with gasoline & set on fire with over 98% of her body burned! She was eventually euthanized. Never once did the Vets & Assistants that tried to save her see any response but gratitude! The lady who heard her howls & ran to help her, said she'd never heard anything like it, something , I'm sure she'll not forget.

I really wish this town & Many others would step forth, take what the Mayor has said to heart , & further improve Laws associated with Animal abuse. For some reason most of these cases are thrown out!! WHY????
Salisbury just made our news where a BOY was reported for slaming his dog repeatidly on the sidewalk. The dogs injurys were severe enough the dog had to be euthanized. This boy will most likely go on to commit more horiffic crimes in the area, as animal abuse is tied strongly to further crime.
Wake up Officials---Do your Duty for the Citizens of this Town!!!
