A Soldier's Take On Michael Jackson's Death

This is written by a young soldier serving his third tour of duty in Iraq . Thought you might find his take on the Michael Jackson news interesting and he's right.

Okay, I need to rant.

I was just watching the news, and I caught part of a report on Michael Jackson. As we all know, Jackson died the other day. He was an entertainer who performed for decades. He made millions, he spent millions, and he did a lot of things that make him a villain to many people. I understand that his death would affect a lot of people, and I respect those people who mourn his death, but that isn't the point of my rant.

Why is it that when ONE man dies, the whole of America loses their minds with grief. When a man dies whose only contribution to the country was to ENTERTAIN people, the American people find the need to flock to a memorial in Hollywood , and even Congress sees the need to hold a "moment of silence" for his passing?

Am I missing something here? ONE man dies, and all of a sudden he's a freaking martyr because he entertained us for a few decades? What about all those SOLDIERS who have died to give us freedom? All those Soldiers who, knowing that they would be asked to fight in a war, still raised their hands and swore to defend the Constitution and the United States of America . Where is their moment of silence? Where are the people flocking to their graves or memorials and mourning over them because they made the ultimate sacrifice? Why is it when a Soldier dies, there are more people saying "good riddance," and "thank God for IEDs?" When did this country become so calloused to the sacrifice of GOOD MEN and WOMEN, that they can arbitrarily blow off their deaths, and instead, throw themselves into mourning for a "Pop Icon?"

I think that if they are going to hold a moment of silence IN CONGRESS for Michael Jackson, they need to hold a moment of silence for every service member killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. They need to PUBLICLY recognize every life that has been lost so that the American people can live their callous little lives in the luxury and freedom that WE, those that are living and those that have gone on, have provided for them. But, wait, that would take too much time, because there have been so many willing to make that sacrifice. After all, we will never make millions of dollars. We will never star in movies, or write hit songs that the world will listen too. We only shed our blood, sweat and tears so that people can enjoy what they have.

Sorry if I have offended, but I needed to say it. Remember these five words the next time you think of someone who is serving in the military;

"So that others may live..."

Isaac

P.S.-"So that others may live..." was also the creed of the Air Rescue & Recovery Service during Vietnam & is still today.

Isaac -
I agree completely with everything you said. It is terrible how self-centered and ignorant some of us are as Americans. But please know that some of us out here do support you and your fellow soldiers with our whole hearts and our whole minds and that people like anonymous 8:02 are few and far between.

Anon 8:02

Wow, shows that you are a real ignorant person. Why don't you go over and fight? Then we'll see who needs the tissue then. These soldiers have a lot more heart, balls, and strength then you do. So why don't you go over to Iraq, Afghanistan and stay over there, and see if you have a freedom of speech a freedom of ANYTHING

Thank you for writing that....Many people in America would never do what you do - they are too comfortable where they are. By the way, my brother is in Iraq and I thank him everyday. As for 8:02, why dont you head on over and fight?

I think he needs to reevaluate why he joined the military. If it was for pats on the back its never gonna happen. And Michael Jackson was much more than just an entertainer. We was also an extremely generous philantropist.

8:02 makes me sick, every American SHOULD say their prayers every night for the freedom we have. Without soldiers to fight for our freedom and protect America, we wouldn't have a 1/10th of what we have. It's this small percentage of the population that should be forced to live in Iraq to get a taste of what they could be living like.

8:53 - he is also a freak and a child molester.

Everyone of our military men and women need a pat on the back and a thank you from every American for what they risk for our country. Yes Michael Jackson was more than an entertainer, he was also a child molester. I'm so sick of hearing his name in the news. Ok, he entertained people all over the world, he was a father, a son, a brother and I get that but come on. Enough is enough. What is wrong with some people in America? There are alot of soldiers who are also fathers, sons and brothers who don't get even 30 seconds of recognition for what they have sacrificed. It's sad and it makes me mad as an American. I am proud to be an American but more so I am proud to be the wife of a soldier who has left his family twice to serve our country, who risked his life for ungrateful, ignorant people like anon 8:02. My heart breaks every time I hear of another fallen soldier and know how blessed I am to have had mine return to me unharmed, physically at least. I'm sorry that Michael lost his life, I'm sorry that his children lost their father but enough is enough. He did nothing for me so I cannot grieve him, however all these soldiers losing their lives to serve our country, a country that I am a part of, I will grieve for them and their families.

The US military are the bravest young men and women on the earth. They protect our freedom each and every day. Americans should pray every day for their safety and should mourn at their loss, every single day. They are the true heroes.

First of all, we do need entertainers, they make us laugh, and most of the time bring a smile to our faces. I also feel much sadness when any one of our soldiers is killed or wounded in action. The soldier said in his story that they are protecting and defending our constitution while fighting in Iraq and Afghaanistan. I have yet to get a valid explanation by anyone for that argument. Our military was set up to defend this nation.I have opposed both these wars since day one. The best way we can honor the sacrifices our soldiers have made is to bring them home...Today

Was MJ white? Looked like it to me.

Michael Jackson was a criminal and in no way deserved the respect he got when he died!

How many people have died in war (Iraq)? Because on CNN they always show damn near the same total amount of people they showed last month. And when they show the picture of the brave solider it says something like : R.I.P. Cpl. James Sanchez (just a random name) Born Jan. 16, 1979 Died May 1, 2007. I mean c'mon these people need to be taken out of public eye and get some real average life people of all races and genders up there so we can finally see that we aren't perfect like tv and radio personalities are portrayed to be. And thats real mfing talk. In & Out!

11:32, they are defending the nation so there are no more terrorist attacks on US soil. If we "sleep" on the terrorist's too long, they will be in our backyard and it will be too late to stop them.

Why?ebcause we are a shallow materialistic society who is more concerned with celebs they will never meet than they are with the real people around them who are unsung heroes.

8 02 you worthless piece of garbage i beg you to come forward with who you are so I can meet you face to face and explain just what it means to be a soldier or the parent of a soldier that has died for your worthless carcass

I completely agree and that's all I'm going to say without going into how I really feel.

Pure heart string flag waving BS. This is supposedly from one serviceman...supposedly. Oh and I did fight and bled more than once so yes I can say that this: the "kid" needs a tissue. What a crock of crap to attempt to make us believe that the military feels this way. Wonder how all the "black" service men and women feel about him?
Grow up Isaac if you really exist, which I doubt.
