Snow Hill Rd Exit Off Bypass

Joe,

I travel north on the bypass daily and take the exit for Rt. 12 Snow Hill Rd. To travel east on Snow Hill Rd you must cross the west-bound lane to an opening in the median. The design of the intersection makes it hard for people to see east-bound oncoming cars when sitting in the median. It becomes even more difficult when the grass on the median is as high as it has been. The grass is approximately 12-18" tall. I attached a poor cell phone picture. Do you think there is anything I can do or anyone I can speak to about this intersection? Thanks

i go by there twice a day...4:00 a.m. and a little after 1:oo p.m.
state highway must have cut the grass sometime yesterday afternoon.
at four this morning, grass clippings all over the road.
turning left onto snowhill rd. is bad enough without having two foot tall grass in the medium blocking your few to the right...

Get a taller vehicle. Don't ever ask the government to do anything, they do much more than they should now. If they have to cut more grass, they will hire a 100 people and buy 50 new tractors and your taxes will go up. Forget it and drive defensively.

don't use a cell phone while attempting to cross. that will help.

this is really bad. Can't see because the grass is so high.

My answer to this person is call the State Highway Administration. They are the only ones who can fix this, Joe certainly can't and I don't think he's feeling like an errand boy.

The only way this grass will be cut is if you do it yourself. The state and the country are broke.

State highway will not fix this problem. I lived on Snow hill Rd before the bypass was built and up until 1989. Since this intersection was put in State Highway only cuts it maybe 2 times a year. This is short compare to what it usally is. They should use the Obama stimulus money to keep it with in County height regs instead of spending it on Federal buildings and projects, www.recovery.org.

I totally agree with the original posted concern. It is so dangerous. Intersections are required to be designed with particular clear sight distances. Its a liability and I just hope no one gets injured because of the lack of maintenance.

I call everytime it gets high. I do have a higher vehicle but you can miss a little vehicle coming down Snow Hill rd... Last time I called the lady told me due to the cut backs we were gonna have to deal with it being taller because there was no money to cut it more often... I suggested round-up then "oh no we can"t do that due to run off" so I guess someone is gonna have to be sacrificed there before it changes....

Try turning left onto Walston Switch north from east bound Mt Herman. Unless they have moved the road closed sign, it is a big blind spot just waiting for somebody to get creamed.

Call the SHA office in Baltimore with complaints. Donnie Drewer hates that! But if they can cut the grass in neighboring counties they should be able to do it in Wicomico!

Why don't they just use defoliant chemicals to control growth if mowing is so expensive ?

They just cut the grass yesterday afternoon. The state is using a private contractor to cut it and has done for the last couple of years. By the way they used string trimmers to cut it , rode by when they were actually doing it. Also to the comment buy a taller car - you are an a-- . I go by there several times a day as well and have a van that's higher than most cars and still have trouble seeing other cars as well.

The comment about the sign on Mt Hermon Rd. I live in the area and have had no trouble seeing on coming vehicles even before they moved the detour sign. All I can say is be more patient, slow down, and double check your line of vision and you should be fine. Approx 99% of accidents are preventable via the driver slowing down and taking there time. Stop being in such a hurry to get to your distination.

Anon 1046 you must not live there, becuase private contractors cut that strip once a week since the end of March. I live right there and they cut it every week. Quit trying to stir up crap. Cutting more then once a week is just a waste of money. Besides it has grown more this year as we have got all of the rain.
