2010 Collaborative Supervision and Focused Enforcement (CSAFE) – Violence Prevention Initiative Grant Awarded to the City of Salisbury
Salisbury Mayor James Ireton, Jr. is pleased to announce that the City’s grant application for 2010 for the Church Street CSAFE-VPI initiative has been approved by the Governor’s Office of Crime Control & Prevention (GOCCP). The CSAFE program provides local jurisdictions additional resources to support the salaries for a Community Prosecutor and a Crime Data Analyst, and overtime for police, to target additional resources in the crime reduction effort.
The City of Salisbury’s CSAFE Program is a collaborative team concept administered by the City of Salisbury. The Community Prosecutor and Crime Analyst will serve both the Westside and Church Street CSAFE areas. The CSAFE program is an ongoing effort by the State to assist counties and municipalities in addressing problem issues in targeted high-crime neighborhoods.
The GOCCP has awarded CSAFE grant funds to the City for the Church Street area for the following projects:

Mayor Ireton will be hosting a press conference on Friday, July 17, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., at 501 E. Church Street, in the parking lot of the Neighborhood Services and Code Compliance Department, to talk about the CSAFE program and other crime reduction initiatives underway.

Thank God for this grant. This is sooooooooo needed right now. I have watched the East side dramatically deteriorate over the past year. I can only hope that they hire or promote people who hold this cause close to their heart. It won't be easy - WE NEED TO TAKE OUR NEIGHBORHOODS BACK!!!!
This grant has been in place for several years now. The crime and quality-of-life issues have not gotten any better for most of the neighborhood.
The CSAFE grant is not going to work without cooperation and input from the residents - and most of them do not want to get involved in any way with any program being administered by the city.
Interesting how the money breaks down. IMO its a bunch more money that wont do anything.
Can we get a grant for a new chief?
I've called the SPD so many times in the last three weeks I think they know my voice by now!

Joe, I just saw your two posts about the Safe Streets program, so now I know what Terry Cohen presented yesterday! Thanks! The Daily Times article was good this morning, but didn't give much information about the program itself.
Please, PLEASE, bring the Annapolis program to Salisbury! Thank you, Mrs. Cohen, for making everyone aware of it!

$35,000.00 for a crime anaylist. Ridiculous, stick your head out the window and you can get this for free. This is bullshit wasted funds. Who appoints these positions?

CSAFEs a great program. But this is just bureaucracy
What is that 65k for the states attorney going to do. That would pay one salary plus more. 65k is higher then most of what the prosecutors make there.
