Old Growth Tree Falls On Car Driving By

Location of Incident: Westbound, along the 900 block of Centre Road, Greenville, Delaware, New Castle County

Date of Occurrence: Friday, July 24, 2009, at approximately 9:00 a.m.

Resume: At approximately 9:00 a.m. this morning, Ms. Jennie Mattews, 36, of Wilmington, Delaware was driving westbound on the 900 block of Centre Road, in her 1996 Toyota Camry.

Just as Ms. Mattews was traveling along, an old growth tree, which was on the north side of the roadway, fell onto her car.

The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle. Jeannie Mattews was transported from the scene to Wilmington Hospital where she was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries. Her two young girls, ages 7 and 9, were in the car with her at the time of the crash and not injured.

Because of the size of the tree, it took several hours for crews to remove it.

No way...I'm the 9 year old girl! Looking back on this now at 15 years old reminds me of eating applesauce and crackers all day with my sister in the hospital.
